Back With Relapse

Back With Relapse Eminem took a five year break to become a producer for his own record label, Slim Shady Records, but is now back with Relapse. Eminem told interviewer, Datwon Thomas, for XXL, that Relapse was to signify the ending of his drug rehab, to say that rap was as if he was on drugs again. According to Thomas, one influence to the album was documentaries involving serial killers and crime. Eminem was said to be intrigued by "serial killers and their psyche and their mind states".

“You listen to these people talk, or you see them, they look so regular. What does a serial killer look like? He don’t look like anything. He looks like you. You could be living next door to one. If I lived next door to you, you could be [one]. ” - Eminem, The New York Times.

Eminem is famously known for “making fun” of other celebrities. He said his “celebrity attacks” were not supposed to be personal, but instead he was "picking names out of a hat".

Relapse was released on May 19, 2009 in the United States and in its first week sold over 608,000 copies, becoming #1 on the U.S. album’s charts. Singles “Crack a Bottle”, “We Made You“, “3 a.m.”, “Old Time’s Sake”, and “Beautiful” were all top 40 hits in the U.S.
