I agree with you, dance is a sport. But I find it a bit insulting to call rhythmic gymnastics "just dance." I do rhythmic gymnastics and it is way more than that, unlike dance in rhythmic gymnastics you have to work with equipment and have extraordinary flexibility. Rhythmic is not "just dance."

I have to agree with you. I've been a dancer for most of my life and I'm 13. So far, I've seen many people come into my teacher's studio all excited about starting dance, but when they realize the dedication they need, the flexibility, and the ability to be able to not just dance but prepare yourself, they leave. They don't come back either.

I think it's both - a sport and an art. Yeah, you express your feelings through dance but you also have to have the right kinds of feelings for it. You can't be the least bit flexible and dance, because yes, you can hurt yourself.

I admit - I'm not the most flexible person, I can't do the splits but I'm close too it. People need to realize that they shouldn't judge something until they absolutely know what their talking about.

I disagree. And before you criticize by saying I don't know what I am talking about, I am a dancer and have been in competitions.

I do not think it is a sport. It's not a sport in the same way cheerleading is not a sport. It is merely a competition. Most of the time there are no clear winners or losers. Plus, to me, saying it is a sport is insulting. It is as if you are saying that we are a bunch of meatheads, and you are undermining the art form.

I am perfectly okay with it not being a sport. It is not insulting to me at all. I don't know why people think it is insulting to not be considered a sport, but to each his own, I suppose.

thank you!! it is definitely a sport, its challenging, fun, involves practice/training and a lot of the time, working in a team, and is extremely physical & gives a good work out.
    which is what sport is.
    so, yeah. :)

dance is for sure a sport. you're doing physical activity (and a lot of it) and you're learning a skill.

dance is definitely a sport. I train myself, it takes as much discipline as football or any other sport.

yes it is! dance is a sport- you compete in it, just like cheerleading and gymnastics. ive been dancing for 10 years, i should know. yeah you can hurt yourself. i pull my leg muscles doing scorpians and splits and stuff, and my back muscles too. if you dont think it is, try dancing all day and then tell me its not a sport. you have to put as much work in it as football and soccer, etc. i take an actual class. ive done every form. tap may seem easy, but i havent done it for 5 years and started oding it again. its really hard!

I kinda agree with everything you're saying, I get that dance is challenging and hard and competitive (even though I don't agree that it's a sport), but it's completely understandable that it's not an Olympic sport, baseball and softball aren't even Olympic sports.

Dance is not a sport! It's an art! Art is better than sports! Art has a deep meaning!

Dance is most definitely a sport. I've danced for about six years and I've worked hard, even though I don't compete.

Dance is a sport. I mean I'm on a dance team and we are just as competitive as any other sport. Like Marhcing Band!
But dance can also be called an art, like Marching Band.
Both can make pictures and cool effects and its takes so much time to make them both perfect as the can be.
