This article is amazing. You never really take the time to think of it in this way, and it's funny how you can watch a movie over and over again and never really understand the messgae behind it. Love this
@ AsToldBy... I didn't forget her. I don't personally consider Tiana a princess because she doesn't have a princess story. However, I don't think she fell into the listening/not listening category.
"It's better to ask forgiveness then permission." I think by watching those movies back then in our younger days, it kinda made us mold ourselves into what we are Today. Basically, we may not listen to our parents at times, but we know they're intentions are good for wanting to protect us.
@ ThE_AnTi_PrOm_QuEeN It was actually a rant I 'thickened' to make an article, so it was definitely not written in the typical article way. However, I do like the idea of cursing and not using completely perfect/proper narrative in an article. I think it adds personality.
Allow me to just say great article..Your argument is good and well thought and clear. I must say though you could have made the article more in depth and detailed (that whole writing as if someone has never seen the movies concept). Also you had a few lapses in proper writing for this medium. For example"Just so she would shut the fuck up" is really not proper for an article. I do agree with the point you were trying to make though. Overall this was really good and with a few little tweaks you'd have something really clever, brilliant, and a valuable contribution to feminism. :)
I love you. Well...in a "oh my God, you are so right and people really need to read this" sort of way XD
I always argue against people who say that the Disney princesses are a bad influence on girls. I mean, there are really a lot of good messages conveyed, ya know?
I'm just happy that you've taken a step and set the record straight for everyone! Great article, thanks for making it. Also, sorry about being so...not thoughtful sounding...I just can't find words to describe how awesome this is *laughs* trust me, I'm usually more descriptive XD
@ Siriano; yeah, i knew cinderella was before sleeping beauty, but she was the rare exception back then. and i mean snow white should have listened to the dwarves when they told her not to talk to strangers. :) (and aurora should have listened to the fairies. in those cases, i guess i meant adopted families.)
@ dru can fly! yeah! and it really annoyed me! it highlighted that that wasnt okay for me, so clearly i wasn't a princess. it made me really sad (knew i didn't want to marry) and made me feel sorry for the princesses. but then, surely, the same rule should apply nowadays? you know, people married young then because they died young and needed time to have kids that survived etc but surely now the average age for marrying should be in the late 20s/30s as people live into their hundreds?!?!
Snow should of listened to her parents? She should have listened to the woman who tried to cut her heart out and stick it in a box for no reason? Aurora, maybe, but she wasn't created before the 1950's. Sleeping Beauty came out in 1959. And being made then doesn't really make sense as an excuse since you praise Cinderella, coming from 1951.
Not a bad article. The princess line-up gets a lot of crap, but they're all very strong characters.
