Thanks for the great read! I knew of the original Saint Nick, but the other stuff I didn't know. Who says I can't learn anything from a writing site? :P
In Belgium we still celebrate Sinterklaas on December 6. Santa Claus is someone I mainly remember from growing up watching American Christmas movies.
Therefore, I did not know a lot of these things and it was very interesting to read. The article also flow well, good job!
I love the fullness and the flow in this article. It was wonderfully written and very informative.
It would have been nice, though, to know where you'd gotten your information, since it's fact and this is an article.
However, great job:]
v From what I remember from past history classes, Christmas started being celebrated when it is to coincide with other pagan 'holidays' as a way for the ruler of the time (the ruler who first declared it as a holiday) to work Christian beliefs into the Pagan society that was the majority then (though becoming the minority quickly). Christmas in itself was always meant to celebrate the birth of Christ (so a 'Christian' holiday) but it fused with pagan traditions to make the transition easier (and more easily accepted) by the pagans.
But Santa Claus wasn't something that popped up until way way after.
