I'll have to admit that I've studied Plato on rare accounts, mainly only when trying to find out about some of his myths, especially the Androgen myth and their correlation with different books, novels, poems, etc. but of course it struck me as something I need to come back to and study wholeheartedly. Of course I don't have the time for it, just now.
However I think that it's an interesting point to think that people haven't been ''out of the cave'' because they haven't read about it. Even the average hard-working student doesn't usually read Plato, alongside with many other great works by ancient authors. It's just not as ''hip'' as the more modern books.
But I suppose that's an other problem.
