I agree with some of these people. I really don't know how I feel about uniforms. It really just depends on when you ask me. But as of right now, I don't really care whether or not if my school gets uniforms. Right now we don't have any but it would nice just trying to decide to wear a skirt or pants or long or short-sleeved instead of staying up late trying to decide what to wear. But, that's my opinion. Nice article by the way. = )

Personally I like uniforms. I must admit sometimes they're ugly and take away induviduality and all but personally as long as theyre comfortable I don't have a problem with them they save me a lot of time and I don't really care what my clothes looks like anyways.

Ugh. Uniforms. I hate them, but never had to wear them. They don't help make everyone euqual, the cliques still show. I HATE polos through.
I Hate khiakis. I just think there ugly..I never did like them. I would if I was in a school with a strict uniform code, to design them. Or the whole school, insted of those stuiped school pricks. I would have a vest and a plaid skirt.
Its simple, plus you wouldn't have to wear those hot ass blazers. My school would look like robots though.

I think uniforms suck for all the obvious and usual reasons. Their uncomfortable, they don't match you style, or they just simply suck. But I think their also good for other reasons. Like you don't have to waste time picking out a outfit in the morning. Also people won't judge what your wearing because your all wearing the same thing. But I would hate having to wear skirts. My school uniforms are any color polo w/ khaki, navy, or black uniform pants/capris. Sometimes you can even get away with wearing black jeans as pants. I do and some other people do.

You think that using your clothes to express yourself is superficial? I'm sorry but that's just stupid. Yeah words speak louder than your clothes but you need to know that you can get people to listen to you before you can speak. I know I would be more open to a person that is dressed nicely and carefully compared to some of the other things people wear. Uniforms can't let you show who you are inside and out. It's like the people that get tattoos, piercings, my friends color one their hands, other people wear their favorite color, some where shirts with their fave bands or whatever. It's saying who you are without saying it verbally. When you don't have any indicator on what the person's like do you really know if they're lieing or not. Okay I'm going a bit far there, but you get my drift. Uniforms are good in theory, but will never work. In my opinion the negatives out number the positives.

my 5th through 8th grade i had to wear uniforms and i hate every single moment of it!! you cant express who you are, and its just soo degrading when you go out in public for a school trip and your wearing a dumb uniform kids are looking at ya like uhmm... wow? of course it is good because kids cant make fun of other kids because there all wearing the SAME thing. but then again its life, you need to go through hard times and being named called or any other nasty thing just b/c people wear different clothes its not a big deal. another nice thing about uniforms you know what your going to wear EVERY SINGLE DAY, as in you dont have to take 20 to 30 minutes of searching in your dresser or closet, or hamper. but isnt there something called "school shopping" for a reason? to go out and buy cool clothes!! XD but wtvr. i am not on the fence even though i named postive and negative things. i still detest uniforms!! uniforms are dumb just another way for "superiors" to control ya.

I live in australia where uniforms are in public and private schools. The public normally just have a school shirt and they can wear whatever else, I go to a private, I have a skirt, shoes, shirt, socks, jumper, a PE uniform and a tie for winter.
I think it's a good thing, you don't have to buy so many clothes, and people don't judge you on your clothes, but who you are.
Once a girl at school told me she didn't reconise me on the weekend because of how I dressed, my personality on who I am didn't seem to fit what I wore that Saturday. I told her that's what I always wear, and she was surprised.
She knew me as a person, not a lable or a genre.

I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had to pick an outfit for school every day.

I don't love uniforms, nor do I hate them. I see them as an equalizer for myself and my peers.

Well, I go to a school in India. They're pretty cheap here, and in my school there are no cliques. So, I just wrote that fact from my own experience. Also, I'm referring more to public schools that have uniforms in the article, as opposed to private schools. I'd imagine that public schools with uniforms would have to have them pretty inexpensive or they couldn't have them at all.

I don't like uniforms. Where I live, they're expensive and they definately don't show school spirit. We wear navy blue or white shirts and navy or khaki pants. My school colors are red and yellow.

My uniform is pretty comfortable, though. I don't like them because I got in trouble for my sleeves. They pick out really small things and give you detention.

I used to be against uniforms (and I've never had to wear them), but now I think they would be so much better. They would save me sooo much time in the mornings.

Very good article, by the way.

Before I had uniforms, I was like "EWOMGWTF." Now that I have them, I'm so happy. I barely have to think about what I should wear to school.

In Australia, nearly all schools here have mandatory uniform.

It sucks when you get a detention for wearing wearing incorrect school shoes or wearing a pink bow in your hair. I'm not concerened about "not being able to express myself". It just gets irritatingly stupid when the teachers scream at you and get you in trouble if they catch you wearing something else other than proper school uniform.

The good thing about it is that you never have to hassle each morning wondering what to wear and people won't make fun of you for what wear...that's basically the only good thing in it for me really..

Thank god I'm going to a senior secoundary school next year were no uniform is required! YAY! It's one of the few schools in my state that has no uniform *happy dance*

    Uniforms, cheap?
    I beg to differ.
One of our shirts cost around twenty to twenty five dollars, and because we like to have clean shirts every day, that's not exactly cheap.
Not to mention the uniform skirts/pants/hoodies.
Everything is usually above thirty or forty dollars.

The only thing that is positive about uniforms is that they reduce time. For the most part.

I have been wearing uniforms since kindergarten.
I can tell you one thing -- it can get frustrating when everyone looks the same. The only thing we can cling to is our personalities.

I go to a school that wears uniforms and I beg to differ. They were NOT cheap. It cost like $300. And even if they were cheap, you would still want to buy casual clothes, so it seems like you would just end up spending more money.
Also, rules can be so strict they're ridiculous. Such as my schools lovely sock rule. Socks HAVE to be mid-calf, or else, which sucks. They also have to be blue, black, or white. No exceptions.

Some people may disagree that they stifle your personality, but clothing is one of the most fun ways to express creativity. And if you think it may change a persons ways, like turning a very skimpily dressed girl into a conservative girl, it doesn't even come close. It does completely the opposite in most cases. They just end up dressing even skimpier when they aren't in school. So, I think uniforms aren't all that positive and I've been wearing them since 3rd grade.

i rember uniforms last year. the rules wren't strict at my old school just have your khakis and a polo. and once you had that on you colud totaly wear what ever else. we could wear shirts over the polo's and skirts and heals and anything. peoples personalities were still able to be seen through the uniforms but i guess that was just Bladensburg. and long as you met the requirements you were cool.

and now at a school with no uniforms. i hate it. people will bash you on what you wear. if it doesn't match you're not a it person. if you don't have the newest jordans or isn't waeing the new style say bye bye to your friends or whoever. i can honestly say i miss uniforms. now we have presure on what we wear. it redicilous. and uniforms aren't that hard to find. just gotta know where to get them. someare cheaper than others, depending on what store you go to. i've never liked uniforms but i'd rather wear them today.

"Uniforms are cheaper." That's one of the things my middle school used to get parents to agree to the uniforms. That's total bullcrap. It wasn't cheaper and they were hard to find. It sucked. I can't stand to sight of polo shirts now. We had to wear khaki pants and navy blue polo shirts everyday. The khaki pants weren't all that great for the girls if they were having a heavy period.

I'm really happy since my high school doesn't have uniforms. I don't have to searched all over creation for those stupid shirts.

I live in england and we've always had uniforms. I don't really mind it. I don't have to think about what to put on every morning, and I don't care if I get pen or paint (or even bleach once) all over it. The only thing that bothers me is that the most piercings we're allowed is one in each ear. And to all the people who say they can't find their friends in a crowd: are you blind? Don't you know what their general body size is, and what their hair and faces look like? I have no trouble finiding my friends.
