This is so true, alot of people dont realise the impact words can have on others. Im from Ireland and alot of people are still very homophobic but i myself never rrealised it could escalate to such things! I am glad someone has this up to show people the effects their words can have!

    Homophobia is gay!

I agree completely with you. I am completely in love with gay people. I find them fabulous. But heres one thing you don't know about me... I am currently in the 7th grade. I have been bullied since I was in 1st grade. My mom has many stories to tell..and I have many more that she might know but have the same meaning behind it. This has been the first ACTUAL year where I come home crying because the girls were being mean to me. But even this year its STILL been iffy. I think the LGBTQ does deserve I guess....more? But still what about all the other kids like me? I am suicidal. And now all I can really write about is death poems and things like that because of how I feel. What people don't know about me is that....I WANT to kill my self....But I'm scared of the pain. If I knew there was no pain involved no matter if its mental physical emotion etc. SOMEONE is going to get hurt and I definitely don't want it to be me. I feel I'm ugly. I don't even get boys to at least flirt with me but all my friends do? I'm not complaining.....I'm just confused. Why does it have to be me? Matter of fact...Why does it have to be anybody?

Thank you for writing this, it's not just America where gay rights need to be recognised, this is a universal issue and I'm just glad that someone is taking the time to write eloquently and thoughtfully about this issue. Again, thank you.

well done. It's about time that people realised that the gay community, as well as the lesbian, transgendered, and bisexual communities deserved the same respect as everyone else.

Sorry, I wrote this before the repeal. Here's my correction: DADT wa only recently repealed, with the condition that the Defense Department could take as much time before enforcing the repeal.

Almost cried reading this. Oh, my god...

Also, didn't America give up the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy just recently? I heard it on the news the other day. They said 'It doesn't matter if you love a man or a woman, just as long as you love this country'?

There was a lot more than I realized. I hadn't heard about a few of them. This article was extremely well-written and was a good way to remind us all about what happened in Sept. More needs to be done, badly. One thing though, DADT was repealed on the 22nd (finally).
Amazing article and as Kurtni said, it was a beautiful memorial

"Lastly, Caleb Nolt, a 14-year-old student in Indiana who was a victim of anti-gay bullying despite his heterosexuality. He was targeted by bullies and tormented. Nolt died on September 30th."

I had never heard about that before, how terrible. A great memorial article.
