Pros and Cons of Formal Education
Education is something that nearly everyone participates in, and for most people, it is a requirement by law. Although there are many benefits to formal education, there are many cons as well, and both are important when discussing formal education requirements.
Pros
Education for Everyone
The formal education system allows for everyone to have the opportunity to receive an education, regardless of their race, gender or ethnic group. This is great for people who wouldn't be able to get an education otherwise. This also prevents people from descriminating against certain underpriviledged schools.
Cons
Learning Styles
The wonderful thing about people is that everyone is different, but with that comes different learning styles. This is great because different people can learn things more quickly than others, but this is a problem in our formal education systems. In these systems, nearly all classes are taught the same, which poses a problem for students whose learning styles are different from the norm. These students often get left behind or labeled as stupid by their peers, which is not the case. Formal education does not aid in the learning of these children, but instead hinders it, which is one of the many flaws in the system.
