Digging Up Graves for the Sake of Curiosity

Digging Up Graves for the Sake of Curiosity I read a news article the other day about how we were able to discover more bodies within a tomb in Egypt. As interesting as the article was I couldn’t help but feel bad for those people. Dead or not, that was their resting place that people worked hard to build but we just go in there - with great care - and dig up these bodies with no reason but the fact we want to learn more.

I couldn’t help but ask myself how these people could not be called grave robbers. They go in a tomb, invading someone’s gave, dig around, take things out, etc with no care at all as to whose body or grave they are messing up.

I mean is learning more about these tombs so important that it has become okay to dig up people’s graves and literally destroy their resting place? In all honesty, I don’t really find this okay.

Yes, I find the tombs as interesting as can be, but it’s in lack of respect that we go into their tombs and dig up their graves for no real reason at all. I have to ask you, how would you, yourself feel if you were one of those people who got their graves dug up and your body poked at.

Of course, some of us don’t care what happens to us after death. We are dead after all, nothing more, nothing less. Seriously though, it’s your grave, a place where people can go to mourn for your death; a place where your body which your soul lived in for years. It was the house for your spirit. You can’t tell me that you would be totally okay with it if someone came into your tomb, removed your things from it, and took your body all for the value of someone else’s curiosity.

Why do I call it curiosity? It’s because that’s all science is really. It's knowledge we’ve gained through curiosity. That’s it.

I mean, is there any real reason why we have to know how these tombs were made? Is there a real reason why we need to know that the Earth is round? Is there a real reason to know what a plant is made out of? Do we have to know what is in the center of the Earth? No, we don’t really have to know any of this. We can live without knowing all of this.

Yes, we need to know what fire is so we know how to stop it. Yes, we need to know what comes out of a volcano so we know to move away. Yes, we need to know when a storm will hit so we don’t get hurt. These are things we need to know.

What is in a tomb, how it is made, is something we don’t need to know. All this is, is curiosity. I find this wrong. I find digging up someone’s grave for almost any reason is wrong. There are acceptations though and curiosity isn’t one of those exceptions. Someone’s murder, a body of an unnamed person who was buried out in the middle of nowhere; these are reasons to dig up a body not for the sake of our own interest.

In my opinion, it’s not fair. We’re not allowed to dig up our graves just out of curiosity but these people are allowed to dig up others graves for that very reason. Am I the only one who finds digging up people’s graves wrong or have I for whatever reason been misguided?
