God, I'm so sick of this election. - Comments

  • About the McCain age issue: I don't get it. I guess people should vote for Obama, even if they don't like him, because McCain might die. Let's ignore all the other facts shall we? We'll just vote against what we stand for because McCain's old! Makes perfect sense, no? Please note sarcasm.

  • Actually John McCain will be the oldest person to be elected for a first term. In the last 8 years he's had about 3 cases of melonoma and I think a few strokes. *cant remember* The stress of a race really can't be helping him. So it is important to consider his medical conditions.

  • I hate KFC. I'm non-veggie, but I just don't like it.
Let's reject food chains and have a hippie circle out in the parking lot.
    HI ANG!

  • Oh, please. The "age issue" is all made up. Reagan was a lot older than McCain and everyone was all concerned about him dying. He actually got shot, and didn't die. So much for being old.
How much foreign policy experience does a senator get? Just wondering....
Actually, you don't want the president to be a senator, because they do not have executive experience or experience in running things. You want your president to be a governor or a mayor or some other authority figure. I'm not just saying this because Palin is a governor, but because I remember learning this in 6th-8th grade Social Studies classes.
Also, a girl I know who is a big Obama supporter and is highly into politics herself pointed this out for me too.

  • Screw it all and lets go get KFC. -invites all the non-veggimatarians-

  • Spaztastic, I know that the President is Commander in Chief. Which is why there is such an emphasis on experience, particularly foreign experience.

  • The VP's are actually important this election though.
Both candidates, due to such a groundbreaking election, have a high chance at being assassinated. There have already been attempts. And McCain, because of health problems, can die in office. Now would you want an inexperienced, religious ruled governor of Alaska who was a former sports anchor or an experienced senator to be your prez if the candidates die?

  • Exactly.

I go to a dominantly black school and a ton of people -- I hate to say it -- are supporting Obama just because he's black. That doesn't really seem right to me.

But get this. A day after there was a huge classroom debate, my homeroom teacher comes in with a stack of papers. Our job was to read a statement and tell who stood for that view.

After checking the papers, the "I'd vote for Obama 'cause he's black" Obama supporters were in shock. You see, most of their views, the main one being pro-life, sided with McCain and not Obama. So really they were only going to vote for Obama because he's black. And a Democrat.

Anyway....I know what both candidates stand for and I'm not really strong for either of them.

  • Actually, every election is like this.

The Pres. actually does a lot. It's the VP that's completely unimportant and has nothing to do but wait around for the Pres to die or resign. The VP doesn't actually have any influence over the legislative branch, except for that one congressional vote in case of tie, but that doesn't even matter all that often (in the VP debates Biden and Palin said differently, but they are wrong and BOTH obviously need to retake 6th grade government lessons, because you learn that there)
    October 30th, 2008 at 04:12am
  • nerdy_, the president is Commander in Chief. If we go to war, he has say in what we do basically. That's important.
    October 30th, 2008 at 04:11am
  • Yeah. One of my grandparents friends was with Obama until she saw him on teh Ellen Degeneres show and he said that if he lived in California he'd be for Gay Marriage.

    So now she's with McCain.

I was like waittt.... they both have teh exact same views on gay marriage, albeit the democrats seem more open to it, neither party is for calling it marriage.

So that lead to a debate. >.<

    Closed minded people....

  • I hear all these older people around my town talking about how they want so-and-so and I just want to slap them because what they say they believe in doesn't line up with their candidates views on the matter. It's like "Did you even bother to look anything up?"

But the people I eat lunch with at school seem to have a more solid grip on politics. They may not necessarily see eye to eye with me (I'm a bit more anti-government than they are), but they aren't blindly supporting someone. They at least thought things through, and that's all I really ask/want.

  • Haha yeah. My stepdad had no idea what was going on and he was asking me for help. I watch CNN and MSNBC and BBC World News all the time. XD
    October 30th, 2008 at 03:59am
  • Isn't it funny how some younger people seem to have a better grip on what's happening than older folks?
    October 30th, 2008 at 03:57am
  • Yup. But if we have a president that foreign countries like than they'll be more willing to help us in the future. A president is basically a poster boy for the country.
We have a good one? Then things go well. We have a bad one and well....look what happens.

Vote for your congressman and your representatives. That's the key.
    October 30th, 2008 at 03:57am
  • What really gets me though is that it doesn't really matter what the President wants. The candidates can stand for whatever but it doesn't really matter.

I mean, the President really doesn't have all that much power if you think about it. The power to veto. Wow. Congress can overrule that. The power to appoint life long judges --- a bit more powerful than vetoing but only if a position needs to be filled...

So really all the debating over Obama and McCain is pointless. One of them will win. One of them will become President. That much is obvious.
But I can almost guarantee that whoever is in office will be blamed for whatever disaster happens next.

  • I'm getting sick of it, too.
Last election wasn't like this. God >.< They started too early with coverage.
