Atheist is too harsh to describe me. - Comments

  • Oh, okay. Yeah, that makes sense. Thankyou(:

  • Basically yeah. Though, no one is a true agnostic... they always lean to one way. And Atheists never say that they are 100% sure there isn't a God, and if they do, they're dumb.

  • Okai. That's what I thought, but, yeah, I wasn't sure. And agnostic is: there could be a god, there could not be a god, I don't know and I won't know until I die?

  • Atheists are only defined by one thing: Lack of a belief in a deity/deities. Everything else is based off of his or her own opinions.

Now naturalists... they don't believe in anything except the laws of the natural world.

  • Hmm... I don't really know. Right now would be a good time for someone to come out with the Great Cosmic Dictionary Of Stuff Like That. I guess it's a matter of opinion though. I tend to think that being an atheist just means that you don't believe in any deities and, for lack of a better word, magical things. Ick, except magical is really the wrong word. Again, though, I have no idea.
Maybe I should just stop leaving ambiguous, confused comments xD

  • The religious debate isn't ever going to cool down. It's something that's touchy for alot of people, and it's also something that people believe strongly about from both sites. As long as people have opinions on it, and... well, they do, you're going to hear about it.

I swear, this is a big thing on this site. People who believe in something, people who don't, and then the people who just want both sides to shut up. It's a neverending cycle.

  • If people wouldn't have such silly beliefs, I wouldn't have to make fun of them for it.

    Go call yourself an agnostic.

  • I always thought Atheists believe humans don't have souls (meaning no reincarnation), that there's nothing after death and that there is no god(s).

  • I thought atheism was without theism, meaning without belief in a deity of any sort? I dunno, I know people who call themselves atheist and believe in reincarnation. Or does that count? I dunno... it's confusing territory xD

  • Humanity acts like idiots at times. I think it doesn't matter what kind of religion your in or not, people are going to find a way to hate you.
It dosen't matter if they know you or not. They'll just go by what you believe in and what you don't.
I'm kinda ok with saying this here. Personal I'm Wiccan and I was always raised with the thought that:
"People should be excepted by who they are and not what they are."
It doesn't if you have a religion or not.
Nobody should critize anyone for that. *I didn't spell that right -_-' *

I guess some people are just ignorant and can never just once learn to stop stereotyping when they don't really understand a person intencions.

  • I don't like it how people automatically couple "atheist" with "not spiritual at all". Saying that you can't be spiritual without believing in a god is looking at things with a rather narrow point of view, methinks.
Buddhism doesn't believe in a god, yet they're considered a religion. They're spiritual. Just because you don't believe in a god doesn't make you an Atheist.
To be an Atheist you have to believe there's nothing after death. If you believe in an afterlife, there's religion. That's believing you have a soul.

  • I think Whoopi Goldberg said it best: "there are boneheads everywhere." Pushy, obnoxious atheists exist, but so do civil live-and-let-live atheists. Replace "atheist" with "Christian" or "Muslim" or just about any major religion and that's still true. "Atheist" does not equal "jerk", it just means you don't believe in any sort of deity.

  • I definitely know what you mean. I don't like it how people automatically couple "atheist" with "not spiritual at all". Saying that you can't be spiritual without believing in a god is looking at things with a rather narrow point of view, methinks. I have had people be like, "your life is devoid of spirituality!" when I can be hella hokey and whatnot (crystals, worry stones, dream catchers, animal spirits, &c. I blame my Waldorf education xD)

Atheists do often get tagged as assholes D: not that we don't deserve it sometimes, but, seriously. We can be pretty neato people!

  • That's how I feel. I'm fine with others believing, but it's just not my thing, if that makes sense.
I sit through religion class, and I don't bash what everyone else says. Some of it I sort-of agree with, but not all of it.
I think religion is the type of thing where you can take certain parts, and leave others, and even sometimes change the rules a bit.

  • In this day and age you can't even say what religion you are without getting a bad look some someone. I also don't like that they tag atheist with scientist. They automatically assume all scientist don't believe in some god. I want to be some sort of scientist - possible chemistry or physics. When I say that to some people they think I'm atheist and tag me with the negative things those people receive, when I have lots of religious views; heaven, hell, reincarnation, souls (obviously), evolution, ghosts and god.
It is sad that atheists do get negative attention, but all religions do. You say Catholic, people think they'll cram they're beliefs down your throat.

A lot of world problems such as discrimination and the fight for world peace won't be ended because of religion, actually. People are discriminated for their religion. Countries don't get along due to their beliefs, sometimes, in religion. It's sad.
