Gun Should Be Banned - Comments

  • This is probably already been said, but I'll put in my two cents anyways.

What happened to that little boy was very sad. It's terrible that he died so young. He was just a baby. And although I feel bad for his parents, it's their own fault. They should've kept the gun in a place where their son wouldn't get to it so this very thing could be prevented. My father owned a gun when my brother and I were really young, and I remember seeing it twice in my entire life. I barely ever saw it because my parents always kept it locked up so we couldn't get to it; this is what all parents with guns should do.

Banning guns, in the end, wouldn't be good at all. It's used for protection. Think about it: say a robber broke into your house and was trying to hurt you or your family. The gun would be used for defense, and then you would've saved lives, including yours. And even if guns were banned, that wouldn't stop people from getting their hands on them. It's illegal to drink if you're under the age of 21, but that doesn't stop teenagers from partying every weekend. Hell, I've drank before and I'm only seventeen, my point being that an age limit doesn't stop anybody.

  • I agree with TheNewFoShizzle on this. I think she said it well.

  • I feel bad for the kid's family, but it's the parent's fault.
It's like putting a muzzle on a violent dog, and then putting that dog in a playpen with a child.

  • That's sad. Being that stupid should really be illegal.

Also, I have to wonder--where the flying fuck was parental supervision? Not only did they leave a loaded gun within reach of a three-year-old, but obviously they weren't WATCHING the kid AT ALL or when they saw him going towards the closet, or when they saw him get to the back of the closet, or when they saw him take out the gun...I don't know, at SOME point, it would have crossed their minds that hey, my kid might be in danger here!

  • Well, let's think about this for a minute.

I have a gun. I have quite a few guns, actually. But I keep them put up in their cases, in a gun safe, or on a gun rack, out of reach of children. Or anyone, for that matter.

Around here, hunting for animals (like wild animals; deer, turkey, and stuff) is really popular. You should have a liscence for hunting, anyway.

Most guns require a certain kind of liscence, anyway.

Anyway, I have guns, but I'm not going to hurt anybody, or myself, for that matter. I think that it's the parents' fault for having that gun in the reach of the kid anyway. So the parents are dumb*sses, apparently.

  • I agree its the parents fault, but yet the parents didn't get charged.

  • Actually I've read reports on statistics on areas where they have more lenient drug laws and actually have less of a drug problem. The theory behind it is, most people who do drugs do it primarily BECAUSE it's illegal.

I agree that gun control needs to be implemented to a certain extent, but just banning them altogether? I don't see how that solves the problem. And the story you've told here, the blame still rests 100% upon the parents' shoulders, in my eyes.

  • But less people will use guns. If hard drugs weren't illegal more people will use them. I'm not saying its going to solve the problem completely. But it will decrease the problem.

  • Guns are Illegal where I live. You can get things like rifle licenses and stuff, but they're usually for people who live on property who need them for things like protecting their crops/animals etc.

But yeah, I like that they're illegal here, the last thing I need is to be paraniod about guns. Shootings do happen, but rarely.

  • I found a few spelling/grammar errors in this journal.

Anywho, TheNewFoShizzle is right. Just because the law makes guns illegal, doesn't mean that people are actually going to obey the law.

  • Yes, people who commit crimes are stupid. But, banning guns doesn't mean they won't find a way to get them. Hard drugs are illegal, but guess what, they're everywhere.

  • I respect your opinion. But people who commit crimes are stupid. So if they ban guns most prob won't find a way to get them.

  • I agree completely with TheNewFoShizzle

  • I think people should stop being idiots.

Banning guns just means people can't LEGALLY own guns. It wouldn't do anything for the crime rate. If someone is willing to rob a bank or kill somebody knowing it's illegal, do you really think they're going to avoid ownership of a gun because THAT'S illegal? As to the kid that shot himself, the parents were morons. You don't keep a loaded gun within reach of your kids. Whether it's "hidden" in the back of a closet or not.

That story is sad. Something that should never, EVER happen. But banning guns altogether? That's not going to do anything except that when someone who, not caring about the law enough to avoid breaking into your house, let alone to not have a gun, comes at you armed, you won't be able to do a damn thing to fight back.
