  • Read a hot dog package Hun, now a days most are made with chicken, maybe some pork, but as for beef unless it said beef hotdog it doesn't have it in it.

  • I think ABeautifulThiefTAAIC needs to shut the fuck up.
And the other people who are telling you to just 'suck it up'. Their not being very respectful to your beliefs or your opinions.

But yeah, I totally get where your coming from. I've been a vegetarian for about a year now. I have a hard time simply cutting up my Dogs dinner. I can't stand touching meat and try to avoid it as much as possible.

  • We didnt grill them. We boiled them. But i don't think you sound like a bitch. Your just expressing your opinion. I'm sorry everyone i just cant stand it. And i wish i didn't have to do it. But i did. End of story

  • You know, I'm not trying to sound like a bitch here, but it was a fucking hot dog. What did you do, stick them on one of the rolly things? Grill it on a grill? Big whoop. It's not like you're grinding the meat or cooking something like steak.

I used to work at a buffet, and on Sunday nights, they'd do steak. Ever have to cut up uncooked steak? It's not pleasant. It's bloody as hell and it just gets everywhere. Plus, it can take a while to cook.

And it wasn't for a few hours during a game, either. If you're this bothered by some lame little hotdogs, you're going to have real problems when you have to grow up and be responsible.

My mother has chronic bronchitis and has to work 10 hours a day in a smoke-filled casino. THAT is something difficult. She has people get pissed at her daily and blow the smoke from their nasty cancer sticks in her face. THAT is disrespectful.

What happened to you was just life. It wasn't disrespect or anything similar to it. It's just something you had to do that you didn't want to do, but guess what? That's life.

  • You don't have to read this journal. I didnt force you too. I expressed my opinion. And i respected yours. I'm just saying to me i felt like she wasn't fair. And its not just eating it. Its the fact i had to touch it and the smell was on me for five hours

It makes you sick eating it, not standing there cooking it.
Side note: my friend's uncle has been vegan for 20? years and works at a McDonalds as a chef.
Obviously you're just being a bit annoying here.

  • Eating it =/= being around it. I go out to eat with my friends all the time, and they're always scarfing down ribs and chicken and beef and whatever else they want, and I just ignore it. Doesn't bother me anyway. The bottom line is this: it's work. You gotta do what you gotta do. Lord knows I hate my job, but I suck it up and do it anyway.

Thankfully, that hasn't happened to me yet because I'm OCD about asking.
Actually, I lied. There was this potato soup made with beef stock which doesn't make sense in itself, and my stomach was churning. I didn't throw up, thankfully. But hell, was I not feeling great that night.
    September 27th, 2009 at 03:38am
  • Thats exactly my point. If it makes you sick you shouldn't have to have it, or be around it.
    September 27th, 2009 at 03:36am
  • v That happened to me, once! Some sort of beef broth that was in a soup, and I didn't know about it. It wasn't even just all in my head; I ended up bolting to the bathroom and throwing up, and afterward the waitress told me what was actually in the soup. Great night for me.

Ah. I have a horrible memory when it comes to anything and everything. I coulda sworn... I just recall watching How It's Made and they were making them. I gagged multiple times. I seem to recall them using three meats, but eh.
And then I go downstairs and my family is making them. *facedesk*

    Loves Life
    Jinxeh is right about that.
My friend has been vegan for I don't even want to know how long and there was beef in this soup that he didn't notice and he nearly passed out from being so sick.

  • I know i'm not allergic to it. But i was comparing it to it because I can't have it just like i cant have something i'm allergic too. I feel its like the same thing
    September 27th, 2009 at 03:32am
  • ABeautifulThiefTAAIC: Depends on the brand. Most are made from meat slurry, but some are made from leftover bits of pork and beef. Mostly it's just mechanically recovered meat, though. (Which...really, is disgusting in its own right, but that's another topic entirely.)

Loves Life, that doesn't sound like you're "allergic," just that you're depriving your body of that meat in the first place, so on the rare occasion you try to eat it, your body can't handle it. That's common, for vegetarians and vegans. If I ate meat now, I'd probably start throwing up. My body just can't deal with it anymore.

  • I had to work there. Its for school. And hotdogs have meat in them. So either way i cant eat them. And you might be able to work at a place who have meat when your againist it, but for me its not a choice. Its like i'm allergic to it. Trust me i love bacon. I just can't keep it down
    September 27th, 2009 at 03:27am
  • I agree with Audrey T. because being vegan (depending on food available, I'm vegetarian).
And, technically, hotdogs aren't just red meat. I think they have turkey in them...
    September 27th, 2009 at 03:23am
  • Then that's not an issue of people not "respecting" the fact that you don't eat red meat. It's simply an issue of a them not caring that you find a task unfavorable and, really, sometimes in life you have to do stuff you don't like. You suck it up and you do it.

Edit: Yeah, so I basically agree with Paranoia. Inflicted.

  • I'm with Audrey T., but mostly because I'm speaking from personal experience. I've been a vegetarian for more than eight years, but when I was offered a job at a deli (where I would have to prepare meat) I was just like, "A'ight." I didn't have to eat it, so whatever. Plus, I mean, in a little food stand it wouldn't matter where you were, you're still going to be close enough to smell it anyway...
    September 27th, 2009 at 03:21am
  • I don't think it's really a lack of respect towards your preference to not eat red meat. It's that you shouldn't be excused from a job because of it. It sucks that you hate the smell, but I don't think it's a respect issue.
    September 27th, 2009 at 03:20am
  • Then maybe you shouldn't work there?
