I don't really know what to say about the whole family thing, but I hope everything works out.
And I kind of know what you mean with the person outside of your social circle. The same kind of thing happened to me once, but it's over now, and I really regret not doing anything about it. I know it's stupid considering the situation, and you've said you liked this person for at least a year, but maybe don't completely dismiss the idea of letting the other person know? I don't know -- I can't really give you advice because everyone's different.

Having feelings for someone is very horrible. Especially when you're still in school, AND they're outside your circle. That's why I don't bother with it. In fact, in school I barely bother with anyone as a friend, to be honest. I enjoy just having a few. That includes you, so yeah. YAAY.
I could explain to you what happened to me last year, involving some silly feelings and some fucking nasty people, but I guess I can just sum it up in one sentence:
YEAR 12s SUCK BALLS.
It's that simple.
As for you and your little...affair...I don't feel that I can say anything useful.
