Well, I can't tell you what style is going to be best for you, but I can tell you what works for me. I usually start out with an idea of a main character. It's usually a girl because I am a girl, so I write what I know that far. I generally write romances, so I then think of a guy. I already have one in mind if it's a fan fic, but if it isn't I make him up, too. I develope my characters and then kind of let them write the story. Once I know my characters, I can think 'What would soandso do in this situation?' and they help me guide the plot.
