Interesting vegetarian meals? - Comments

  • @Sprinkle Pixie Dust I can't take any sort of vitamin tablet 'cause my body rejects them, so I had to get to a "healthy" weight and have to read labels super carefully to be allowed to do this :)

@vaginasaurus Thanks a bunch, the salad sounds delicious XD and I'll remember extra firm tofu, going to get some today :D

@pamplemousse never had vegetable moussaka may have to try that :)

  • Re: tofu varieties, get the extra firm unless you're making a recipe that specifically calls for something else. Makes it much easier to work with and much more appetizing when it's done.

As for recipes, my gf and I are both vegan, and we really like lentil soup (made with vegetable broth, obvs) with carrots, tomatoes, onion, celery, mushrooms, potatoes, whatever green vegetable is on hand, and a few bread or bagel bits toasted with olive oil -- the combination of the lentils and the bread gives you most of the texture and nutrients that people like in meat. And obvs if you don't want to put in something on that list you can just skip it.

We're also big on pasta and store-bought marinara with a few herbs and random vegetables added -- careful, though, I don't know what brands are most readily available to you, but if Prego's one of them, check the label for "natural flavors", as that usually means meat.

Also, bean salads are great ways to get protein -- take some kidney beans and/or garbanzo beans, throw a handful of each in a big mixing bowl, add a little olive oil, and add whatever else you feel like adding from there -- pasta, tomatoes, avocado, olives, mushrooms, minced onion, leafy greens, parsley, rosemary, capers, anything else you think would be tasty.

  • I'm a vegetarian. But I don't cook because my mum is afraid I would burn the whole house down. xD

But in the dairy sections/etc. in supermarkets and stuff you can finda whole lot of vegetarian curries, fake chicken nuggets, fake bacon, tofu comes in a range of hard to soft varieties, I get burgers made from soy and vegetarian sushi is my fave, and if you ever had trouble with your health (I'm assuming this because of your mention of the doctor) then there is a lot of multi-vitamin tablets out there in case you're worried about that.

    xx
