It's different from what they've done before, but it's still great. Keep in mind, a lot of what was written and put on the record was Jimmy, and the band didn't want to change what was written and slated to be put on because it was something that their brother had written, and he's not with us anymore.
Some of it does seem to be written for shock value, but a good bit of it is able to be related to for a lot of people. Honestly, I can relate to the single a bit. I was in my own personal hell for a while and it sucked majorly.
I interpret the song a bit weirdly though- I think of it like someone's in their own personal hell, and they know it's their fault that they're in it. They're fighting it, though, because they're determined to get out, even though most people would think they're just deluded for thinking they can. Thus, they're trying to help by doing harm, like medicating them and trying to get them to talk about it even though it's a personal battle that only the person themselves can solve.
I guess that you just have to have an experience to really relate to it- plus, a lot of people find different meanings in things. Perhaps you find it a bit dark, but I find it to be another Avenged song that's interesting and relatable if you look at it in the right way.
Their old stuff I am not into at all. I like Seize The Day and everything else pretty much gets a 30 second fame before it's changed.
But when I heard Nightmare, I loved it.
I heard that they were going to not continue on as "A7X" for long though because it didn't feel the same without Jimmy.
