Squirrely.Kassi My parents are from LA in California is just real bad... Mexico period is real bad.... I admit when they hop the border they don't know how to be American they just bring all the problems and mind sets of Mexico with them or pass them to American family members and personally turn people away from the government and in to crime because thats how Mexico is when it should be a bit of the other way around because the American government although not perfect is still better then the Mexican government and they should have more trust.

v Depends on the area you're in, I suppose. In places like where you live, yeah, there's going to be a higher population of Mexican people - you're right there on the border. I live in Ohio, and while there's a small, mostly Mexican-populated community nearby where I work, otherwise it's a fair mix of all races in most places - especially Cleveland.

Well, personally. Not to sound racist, I believe America is slowly turning into a new Mexico. :/ Especially where I'm at in this part of California. We have so many Hispanic stores, & bill boards in spanish. At one of our banks, their TV and what not is really just Spanish... It's so annoying. I'm tired of it. If it were German, (I'm German) I'd be just as pissed, so I'm really trying not to sound racist. :/

Wow. We got off topic, didn't we? ^^ That's okay; I enjoy randomness.

But I still wanna know what people think about what comes to mind when they think of their home countries. And y'know how some countries are referred to by different names (e.g. America, US, United States)? Do you have different connotations attached to those names?

I like this. A lot. I find it fascinating. And I'm thrilled that people seem willing to participate!

I'm a vegetarian as well, I used to get their SnackWraps without the chicken. Put their Mexican Salsa in it. BUT they got rid of the regular ranch snackwraps (with chicken) and made some funky ones... :/ I didn't even bother...

WTFMusicPerson Umbrella term, "preservatives," yes. But the preservatives they use to embalm human bodies (methanol, formaldehyde, ethanol, and some other solvents) are nothing like preservatives typically used for foods (mostly specific vitamins, with nitrites, acids, and antimicrobial agents). </mortuary nerd>

vv I'm lactose intolerant. And I dislike most non-processed meat. So all I'd have to give up is what little meat I do eat and eggs. Not too hard, I should think.
And you're probably right about the six months. ^^; I couldn't remember. That's even worse, though! Eeep!

(I live just a little bit from the city but not that much). I think the most I could do is be a pescatarian with a little chicken every now and then. But I was told by my friend in 4th grade mc donalds food was made of plastic and now I avoid their hamburgers but I really love their Cesar salads and mc flurries XD .... and it helps when my mom reminds me preservatives are the stuff they inject dead people with.

v It was more than two months, wasn't it? I thought it was like, six. I saw the album on Flickr a few days ago, though. So creepy.

I'd like to go vegan, but I'm horribly anemic, as it were. I've been a vegetarian for about ten years, and it's all I can handle anymore. Being vegan would legit make me ill. Sucks, but ah, well. I like my dairy too much to give it up, anyway.

v I don't think their meat is real. Or maybe it used to be, but they've stuffed enough preservatives in it to make it plastic. Ewww... Did you hear about that woman who kept a McDonald's meal for two months? Fries and a burger. After a few days, it stopped decomposing! It was roughly the same size and shape a few months after it was made! And we're putting that in our bellies? -shudder-

I would love to go vegan, someday. Vegan food is so delicious!

v I admit, I really like their mocha frappes, and their yogurt parfaits. But, I mean, even if I ate meat I couldn't imagine going near some of the stuff on their menus. I don't even think their meat is real meat, and it freaks me out.

I live in the city, now, but I completely agree. I still visit the country continuously (my parents still live out there), and I could never simply dismiss how important those areas are. I grew up being heavily involved in 4-H, even. I think, no matter how much I might happen to prefer the city for living, that the country is always going to be a little ingrained in me.

v McDonalds: yesssss. That's why I remembered that statistic at the bottom of this. -.- I hate McDonalds. It's disgusting. And it's associated with the US. Gah...

And I agree with you on the farming deal. As a country-girl, I see the world from a 'country' point of view, whether it be the mountains, hiking, ranching, and plains, or from my relative's farms. -nod- Farming is important. More important than a lot of people care to think.

    I think of McDonald's.

I just got really sad. Ah, well.

But I also tend to think of one of the many backbones of America - the farming communities, mostly. I grew up out in the country, and spent my autumns watching my neighbors take care of their crops and deal with their meat animals, knowing that those things were going towards supporting our local (and not-so-local) economy. So for me, when I think "America" I still tend to think of the fields, of all the farms...

v Oh, sorry! I coulda sworn that I read something...somewhere...where you said you lived in Montana. And the description you gave sounds exactly like where I used to live. Literally. What you described is how I remember my hometown. ^^

Maybe I should check out Nevada sometime, then, yeah? Maybe I'll get a sense of 'home'? =]

I live in California, Southern California.

I think of the ghetto people, always having shit to say. I think of the drivers that think they own the road, & don't care what people think. I focus on how crappy our economy is, and how our people judge people by their looks. I think of how our President Obama (whom in my opinion) is President because he's black, which sucks because as much as I would love a different variety in our Presidency, I wish our people would've been smarter and chose because of what they bring to the table rather than what they look like. :/

I look at all the 12 year olds, that are wanting to grow up too quickly. With their make-up, short skirts, and highschool boyfriends. I think of how mother's need to learn discoplene with their children, and quit allowing them to do what they want. I think our judge-system needs to put the death penatly out there more when someone literally has so much evidence and they admit to it, against them. I think we need to be stricter with Illegals coming over here bringing their diseases because they're not properly vascinated, & over all...

I look at America as, Welcome. If you don't speak English, oh well. We have every other language out there for you... If you speak Spanish, congrats you're the favored ones now. :/

Sorry my opinion is my opinion, if I make anyone upset well you asked for my opinion... Everyone lives in different parts of America, so thus their opinion's will be much different. Thank you for reading.

When I think of the USA I think of stereo types, I think of how nowone is safe anymore. I think about the on going war in IRAN I think of all the poor soldiers who have to go fight a war that isn't our business. I live next to the largest Military base is the USA I've had more guy friends die in that war than most people.

When I think of the USA I think of how religion over powers lover. I think of how Gay men and women get beaten for falling in love with someone of the same sex.

When I think of the USA I think of how much Obama screwed us over than Bush did....If I could do one thing...I'd bring bush back no matter how bad he was...he didn't take our money, he wouldn't have bailed out those corporations....

When I think of the USA I actually cry because I can't afford to live anywhere else.

V I find learning about other countries fascinating, especially when I am learning from the point of view of the people who live there. We get a crappy, biased overview of the world here in the US. Thank you so much for sharing!

Thanks to all of you, and to any future commenters! I love reading these!

VV And I miss Montana. So much.

When I think of America I think of obsese people, anorexic people, glamour, life, freedom, craziness, sun (weird one, since loads of places there are cold), and the place where I'm going to move to.

I'm from Northern Ireland, so it doesn't mean much to me. All I can think of is alot of hate. Because that's what there really is, and seperation. And alot of drunkness! Being Irish is cool, but N.I is messed up. In my opinion.

I think it depends on where you live or are raised.

Personally I'm raised in a small city with lots of nature and Indian reservations close by so when I think of where I come from I think of snow 6 feet high and getting lost in the mountains. I think of mountain lions and deserts filled with sage and rabbit brush, I think of dry heat and fishing in ginormous lakes with clear blue water and sunsets that silhouette the mountains. Also old boom towns that are now ghost like and still hold their old dusty charm.

When I think of our past I think old stuffy plantation owners, pilgrims who wear belt buckles on their hats, and a race of peaceful natives rich in culture taken advantage of by foreign peoples.

As an American I appreciate all that I have and my freedoms because I realize that it is not universal. Theres a lot of things fucked in society but theres a lot more that could be wrong, and theres a lot that we forget to be grateful for. Really the only problems we have right now is the economy, health care, high university rates, and insurance that upsets the people because of course it involves money.

As a peoples I can say nothing more then the melting pot of the world because of our extreme diversity. Everyone here except the natives are immigrants. Mexicans are more native to the Americas and united States then all the white people in our country.

When I think of that ignorant attitude and fierceness towards other countries no offense to anyone but I can't help but think of the "ignorant South" rather then the specific place I live, or I think the republicans.

I really hate how other countries feel they have the right to diss us when America is the product of those countries people.
