He could have dependency issues. That way he needs to constantly have someone else there. It would explain why he needs her with him all of a sudden. He would connect with her on some level and then simply want to be with her forever. Or something like that... I dunno. You could look it up for a better explanation, but it might just work. It would also work if he had a tortured past. He could also have some sort of motherly abandonment issue and so he needs another female to take care of him or be near him.

Hmm. In my opinion, he should have some like....need to help other people, because when he was younger he was an addict and was abused...?? I think that'd make it interesting, especially if she was to enter into a relationship with him. Also, it seems that he would have some sort of abandonment fear, which is why he becomes so obsessed.
