I completely agree the last commenter. It completely depends on how you can relate to eachother, athought I'm guessing that since he is already your best friend, you probably can relate pretty well. But yeah, wait until you are eighteen or over, because you both could get in trouble. And, as cliched as this sounds, make sure that he treats you with respect, and that he doesn't try to force you to do anything. Don't ever sell yourself short.

If you're 17 and he's 25, unless you're unusually mature for your age and/or he's unusually immature, you probably see life in two completely different ways. I don't have a problem with age differences, and if it's something that can work, why not. When I was 20 I had a thing with a guy who was 31. Then again that was purely physical, and I ended it when he started getting attached...but that's besides the point.

The reason age differences tend to cause problems is that people in different age groups are generally at vastly different points in their life, where they just have completely different mentalities, see the world in different ways, through different filters, and it's hard for things to mesh and it's hard to relate to each other. If you don't think that would be a problem...well, I'd wait until you're 18, at least, because as of now you're jailbait and he could get into a LOT of trouble. But beyond that, if you both have feelings for each other and you don't think the age is going to put you on different planes of thinking, go for it.
