Anti_Allure; It usually doesn't take much to slow down... so I would normally just ride until the skateboard stops by itself. Which, like I said, doesn't take that long if you aren't pushing. But if you want to come to a quicker stop, there's a couple things you can do. There's footbreaks, heel drags, and power slides.
When footbreaking, just take your back foot off the board and drag it along the ground. When heel dragging, you move your back foot do that your heel is hanging off the side of the board, lean back a bit, and step down on your heel. A powerslide is where you are skating along, sometimes pretty fast, and spin your board to the side and skid to a stop. Footbreaking is the easiest, heel drags take some practice, and a powerslide is pretty advanced. So start with the footbreaking.
And when all else fails, you would do a "bail" which basically means you just jump off the board, haha. (:
v; Hm, well for one you jump higher. And putting your front foot further away from the nose (closer to your back foot) can help as well. Think bent knees, and just picture yourself ollie-ing higher. I guess practice is the best way. (:
