People will not forget the holocaust. Not now, anyway.
They cannot, history could not be deleted so easily. Especially not after 66 years. It's too soon.
The problem is that forgetting is a process. It starts with small voices of denial, of incorrect facts. People hear it. They don't believe it, of course, but they hear it- and as the time pass, the idea doesn't sound so absurd. That is what, I believe i-am-waht-i-am is trying to say. Don't allow this to start. Rise against it. So many people can die for nothing. Let it be their memory that prevents such wrongness from ever occurring again.

xBecomingxNumbx-> you are right. It is not a subject one can speak so freely of. It's horrible. And you are right that we will not be able to forget. But what about the next generation? If you choose not to bring up the subject because it's uncomfortable to speak about, why would your children? You will not forget, but they will never remember.

JustALittleGirl-> here you are wrong. Remembering does help to prevent it. Any leader needs followers. He might be crazy (and that's human kind) but the rest- if they only remember- will not follow him. The world will not be quiet. We can't lose hope and then be shocked it did happen again. It's within our power to prevent it.

i-am-what-i-am-> amazing. You expressed such an important subject in a beautiful way. Great writing.

It's not like things like this don't happen... look at Libya and Rwanda.

They may be on a smaller scale, but we shouldn't forget about those innocent people who lost their lives because of genocide as well.

The main thing I hate when people talk about the holocaust is all they ever mention is that it was the Jews who were killed. It was all against the Jews. Well, no it wasn't. It was against the handicapped, the mentally retarded, the gypsies, the homosexuals and others as well. Yeah, sure, the Jews were the largest amount killed, but it wasn't just all about them.

I won't forget it, no one will. But remembering it will not make sure anything like it happening again like you said. This is mankind remember? People think they're superior over others. It's going to happen sometime again, who against? I dunno. When? Dunno. But it will.

We shouldn't remember just so it never happens again. We should remember because the people who died deserve to be remembered. They did nothing wrong and they were killed. They were innocent "nobodies" (not known world-wide) but they were still human. After everything, they deserve something good.

I live in America and we have not forgotten it. In 8th grade I had to do a project for social studies about it and used the phrase "Never Forget". I don't think people have forgotten, it was a huge part of history and nobody has the power to just wipe it out of the history books completely. As a junior in HS now, we still discuss the Holocaust. I agree with Penny-Penny, it's not that people have forgotten, they just don't want to talk about it. I guess they want to try and forget that horrible part of history. But nobody will be able to because it was so horrific.

People don't like to talk about death. That's why we push it away. At least, thats what everyone tells me. Also, death is an uncomfortable subject. The holocaust held many deaths, and it was so horrible it probably scares many people. It's traumatic. And people usually push those things to the back of their mind.
