Hypothetically, I would make stories anonymous, somehow. I think it'd be interesting to see how that effects the writing/reading side of Mibba.

I agree with the favoritism. I've never dealt with it personally, but I do see it happen. Especially before all of the old members shifted away from Mibba.
I've been on Mibba since 2007, I've seen a lot of changes. Most of them have been positive. However, much of the site is still kind of hard to navigate. And for a new user, it's a tad overwhelming and a lot of features of the site are hidden in the sense of, hard to find. However, most of my issues with mibba are user related.

And most of what venustation. said. I also left mibba (checking back every once in a while) for another writing site, mainly because I didn't feel this website was about writing anymore, just the boards.

I'm really pissed right now because I typed a comment out and accidentally clicked elsewhere and backspaced and lost the entire thing so now I have to type it out again. So.

I agree essentially with everything everyone else has said so far. Especially summer girl. and Dru (sorry boo, I'm not typing your whole username out; everyone knows you anyway).

My main issue with Mibba is that it's not focused on the writing as much as it should or used to be. Everyone is so into the forums. And not even parts about writing, no; lots of people hang out in the General boards. When I left Mibba for good around a year and a half ago (as I'd been teetering and losing interest for awhile), it was because I wasn't feeling like this place was the same as it used to be. People were so interested in talking to one another, playing games, trying to one-up each other with their pretty themes. Having their little cliques and inside jokes and spamming threads without reprimand. Over time, as I came on here less and less, I would post questions in the General Q&A and the Story Q&A, and found that in the General one people wouldn't answer unless they knew you, unless you were friends with them all - ~*Mibba famous*~, and in the Story one, well, no one answered. Ever. It had become more social networking than writing.

I understand it's nice to sit around and play with your friends, but there has to be a point where it stops because it's nonsense. Everyone on Mibba can communicate outside of the website - we have Tumblr or Twitter, or Facebook, instant messengers, and of course email addresses. We even have private messaging for conversing. So why does it need to be here instead of elsewhere? Why does bandom discussion need to be here? Or rating your photography? Frankly, I don't see a majority of the boards on the forum as being necessary. The General boards, the Life boards - what good are those? I'm not saying I wasn't part of this mess - I lived in the Confessions threads, which were treated more like a WAYT than the actual WAYT was. But I wasn't getting much writing done, and neither were a lot of other people. It's fun and all to talk about music and art and politics and fashion, but what good does it do for your writing?

If it were up to me, I'd do away with almost all of the boards on the forum. People are so focused on the boards more than the actual story section - or if I might amend that, they're focused on the irrelevant boards for frolicking and doing nothing rather than relevant ones like the actual Story boards there. I'd do away with it all and stop the free-for-all, get back into the original point of Mibba - writing.

You know what I see every time I come onto the homepage now and again and glance at the 'updated stories'? Things that are not stories. Stupid little lists of things, stuff that looks like transfer over from Quizilla.

I left Mibba in favor of Tumblr and another writing site. I keep my fun time separate from my writing. And it's good like that. And our writing site, we don't have a forum at all. And it's better that way. Nobody is distracted or lazy or unconcerned. We read a lot, we have some extremely long stories, we give and receive a great many reviews and con-crit - something I never got over here without having to beg for it from friends. If we want to talk outside of writing, we all have profiles with contact information and we contact each other to talk and make friends that way. We don't need everything all together and messy. (I'd link, but it's a fandom-based fanfic site, not just a plain ol' writing one.)

Tl;dr: to hell with the boards, glorify the literature.

Agreed that the star rating should be more about how users vote you than number of subscribers/readers.
I'd have there be more mods/admins/editors who are on frequently and that when you approach with a problem, you know it'll get taken care of. Right now, there isn't much power with Kurtin and Audrey, even though they're good people, they can't fix much or block trolls, etc.

I agree with little motorkitty; because I like the option to see when the person was last online. It seems silly, but the forums just seem so exclusive now, and I think it'd be nice if they weren't.

Also, if you want to know what makes Mibba good as well as its flaws, I really like layouts as a feature. I hate sites that don't let me customise my work. Layouts should be available for poems and such too.

I would make stories rated by review (eg. each reader can vote out of ten stars) and not simply by numbers of hits and subscribers.

If there was one thing I would change about Mibba, it would be putting a word count of story, poem and journal comments. I understand that has a lot of pros and cons, but I think it would help more than hurt. I see it as building a foundation on a writing site. You're here to become a better writer or reader and feedback should be the most important. Some people say they have trouble coming up with words, but they want people to read and comment on their work too. I think it should work both ways.

As strange as it sounds, I would change the availability. A lot of users nowadays are trying to use Mibba as a platform to launch their writing careers, obviously using the community as a test group for their work, however once something is posted on Mibba, it stays there, even if your account is deleted, and it's open for anyone to plagiarize from. Similarly, there's no way to really prove it's yours, and certainly no publishing company is going to take something that has been put openly on the internet. For that reason, I think that Mibba should have an option for private stories - you would still have access to all of the fancy layout features, but the story wouldn't be open to any teenager with internet access, but to a more selective group of people that the author would choose. More of a safety protocol, I suppose you could say, a protection plan for a person's pipe-dreams.

In my opinion, I think it needs to be a bit more focused on writing, I love Mibba. I've been on this site for 2 to 3 years already, but it's starting to get slow. All I ever do is roleplay here anymore, and I haven't even been doing that lately.

I think something that needs to change though, is the people actually, cause there are clique's here, and there are people who aren't very nice.
And it also needs to be a little more tidy, when I search for a certain type of story, it's so hard to find the kind of story i'm looking for. The fan-fictions over take alot.

As far as I'm concerned, things like cliques and whatnot do not really matter, as they're more about the users. I think a requirement to write would be a bit much, but I think a focus on writing itself is definitely nice (although it's been ages since I wrote something). Perhaps incentives, or a more defined points system. I don't mean upvotes and downvotes, but more so something like Facebook likes, or a 1-5 star review system that allowed people to both rate and review, separate from an area made solely for comments on the stories. Hope I helped, darlin! Cute

I totally agree with summer girl. but other than that, I don't know what else. More emphasis on original fiction would definitely be a plus.

I think that not having to censor swearing on everything would be nice - it's not like putting a star or whatever is going to stop you from saying/reading what's been typed.

Also the amount of updates - it'd be nice if they actually pulled through with what they said they were going to update and didn't get things done years later; literally. Subtle but convenient updates would be great.

It'd also be cool to see layouts in the poem section, like in the story section.

I think that updates should be updated eventually. I think there needs to be an increase in staff with the increase of members. I think if more regulation were available for staff and more staff were available to regulate (all sections of the site, not just boards) that it would make this site more similar to what it once was.

Also, the story section needs to be easier to navigate. It was fine when there weren't too many stories, but now it needs to be streamline and easier to find what your looking for, which will increase story reviews and comments.

    I agree with empires.
That's the main issue I have with mibba. I've seen so many people that blatantly break the rules (especially in the journal section) and never get banned. They get like a thousand warnings and fnjhgssajh ugh. all it is is favoritism.

Id change the way the stories were posted and probably put a lot more enforcing on that part of the site (such as stories that break rules and all that jazz) i think id also put more emphasis on the Poem section of the site as i feel as though that section normally goes unnoticed
