I'm so so so so happy that this exists! It's the coolest thing ever! (Granted, I'm easily pleased so I thin everything that happens on this site is the coolest thing ever, but...)
But I get what you guys mean about trying not to sound too rude or anything. The worst thing is when you put in a lot of time and effort into a decent review and then the author responds with "OMFG YOU ARE SUCH A TWIT. DID YOU EVEN READ MY STORY?" or worse, the ever-infuriating, "don't like? don't read".
So I basically do this trick where I sandwich the one thing I didn't like about the story between two large chunks of fangirl gushing. That way, it usually goes unnoticed lol
... I swear to god, we must be the same person. I do that all the time! I think, okay, one bad thing, then one good thing, then one bad thing, then one good thing. I almost alternate if you look at the format of all my stories. It's like no matter what, I have to even it out or I feel absolutely awful. Usually it's not that hard though, in small things there's no story that's all terrible, you know? :3
And of course, I always point out how to fix it too so it's constructive. Sometimes after I post a comment I just sit there and hope dear lord let them not be offended I swear I'm trying to help.
And on the bright side, at least I'm making someone's day with a nice comment, aha. Someone's day is a little brighter. c:
I do the same thing with comments. I hate pointing out the bad/things I don't like in stories. So if I do, it's usually hidden behind a good comment (I make myself find at least one positive about the story) as not to come off a rude or condescending. I hate being the bad guy. Confrontation is very awkward for me. :/
Granted, I could just be spending way too much time, hehe. Instead of a few sentences I tend to write a few paragraphs. They're definitely nice comments though. And eh, I really wouldn't want to do that either way, because it could be relevant to them and I'm a master at avoiding all confrontation, even the internet kind.
I guess I'll just have to stay overly optimistic about it though, hopefully! :3
I get what you mean. But so far, I've received decent comments, if not ideal. I'm sure there will always be the typical "lets just say I really like it..., etc.", but Dujo said "their comments can always be reported if they're not relevant." So there's always that.
I tried it, and while I sort of like it because it brings new stories to the table that otherwise I probably wouldn't read, it's a little disheartening to put time and effort into a detailed comment only to get two/three sentences that don't really tell me much at all in return, and seem more writing the comment just to write the comment. :c I'd prefer it if it went back to 100 words, at least.
I'll probably keep using it and hope that one time or another someone will surprise me, hehe. n.n
