The only thing I can say is, just to keep messing around with it, I don't really have any tips. Mine are usually super simple.
I had a problem like that with a story layout I was doing for someone, the best thing I thought to do was to start all over. Are you trying to use it as a full background, content, or title? I'll probably be like captian obvious, but how I see it is to never mess with the text in the content tab, just stick with the text in the time/title/and text tabs.
I've actually seen some worth-while layouts, spencer reid usually has very pretty ones as well as a lot of others.

So just take a breather, then try again. I hope you figure everything out.

I've given up on even trying to like all the customization options of new Mibba, haha. I feel like it's much more complicated than necessary, and no matter how hard anyone tries, their blog layouts look bad. It may be my browser, but I'm yet to see a single one that is aligned correctly, and/or readable without me having to highlight it.
