This, so much. I don't think I could agree anymore, and I think it's awesome that you're not afraid to share your personal story. Sometimes, I think social services opponents just don't realize what a typical person receiving benefits faces.

I know exactly what you mean. My parents are barely making ends meet in this economy and we are just literally two steps away from welfare. We do have certain benefits like health insurance for me but we do not qualify for most.

I understand where some people complain though. There IS that percentage of people who have 5 kids, have been on the unemployment line for a while and STILL have a brand new Iphone and get paid under the table, but that's a very few. There is people who honestly just can't do it alone and need help from the government.

This blog... I agree with it so much and I love you for writing it.

It never fails to irritate me when I see someone who has the nerve to encourage the negative (and usually incorrect) stereotypes about people on welfare. These people are often uneducated about the reality of welfare and have bought too much into the propaganda against welfare. It's actually kind of sad but a lot of people, especially Americans, have a "me me me" attitude where they are increasingly selfish and only care about themselves. It's so sad how disconnected and selfish Americans have become over the years and seem to have an inability to care for the people who are less fortunate than them. They take for granted of all the blessings they have. In this world anymore, it's a blessing to be able to be "self-sufficient" and not be on welfare.

Honestly, there's not really an argument against this healthcare law that doesn't essentially say "the poor deserve to die". There's not really a way anyone can argue against this law without pretty much saying the poor aren't hum and deserve to die. And it's actually scary that a lot of people really do think like that, they just won't admit they do believe the poor should be left to die. People are so selfish and it shocks me, we need to teach humans in general how to become more caring individuals. In a way, I think money takes away a person's humanity. As people get more money, they seem to become more self-absorbed.

I was raised in a poor family as well and my family is still considered poor. We've been on welfare in the past but have managed to become "self-sufficient" enough to the point where my mother has taken us off it but is putting consideration into applying again. I'm one of the many people living without insurance in this country as well because my family can't afford it and my job doesn't provide me with benefits.

It seems like these people against welfare thing people enjoy being on it and it puzzles me. How could anyone think living in poverty is enjoyable for anyone? I don't think the majority of people on welfare enjoy being dependent on the government just to survive anymore or enjoy living in poverty or close to poverty. It's truly saddening when you see how selfish humans have gotten.

I sorry for rambling, I'll stop now. Shifty I agree with a lot of what you said and this blog was amazing to read.

I LOVE this blog. I honestly have never been in that situation, but I want to help whenever I can. To brush off people less fortunate than myself would be selfish and make me a total prick.
