Looking at different types of Contraception and really don't know which is best... - Comments

  • I don't know where you learnt that but it's just not true. Look on the planned parenthood website that dru and I linked. The IUD prevents (not terminates) pregnancy by stopping the sperm from joining up with the egg. It does this b thickening he cervical mucus so they can't move. Mirena also stops some women releasing an egg at all. Although this isn't necessary as the egg can't be fertilised either way. An IUD is one of the most effective forms of birth control with less than 1% of women getting pregnant on it.

  • It does not stop you from getting pregnant (IUD). It stops the fetus from growing and causes you to lose the baby. And I was on the pill and had an IUD so I know I'm right. My step mom has Mirena and is on the patch. An IUD does NOT release hormones to stop the production of eggs, it terminates the pregnancy before it has a chance to grow in a baby.

  • I would get an IUD over the shot, just because I've heard so many people gained a lot of weight on the shot. The thing about the IUD being an abortion isn't true and you don't need to be on another type of birth control with it.

If you're scared of it being too permanent, I would consider the patch because it's something you put on every three weeks, take off to have your period, and then replace.

Planned Parenthood has this sort of quiz thing that recommends birth control in the order that you might prefer them. The link is here. They ask you questions about how often you want to take it, as well as some other questions.

  • That isn't true about the IUD at all. You don't need to take another form of birth control and it's got nothing to do with abortion. Birth control stops a zygote being made, abortion gets rid of an existing zygote. The IUD stops a pregnancy by making your womb an inhospitable environment.

This is a fantastic resource detailing all the types of contraception, how effective they are and what they do. It's difficult to know what's right for you because everyone's body is different but it you go to a family planning clinic, doctor or nurse someone will be happy to discuss the options with you. anecdotal evidence is very weak because everyone's body has a different reaction to both controls. What works for others might not work for you.

Also, unless you are 100% sure you have no risk of getting or spreading an STD, you should continue to use condoms.

  • The depo shot is nice, and if you're under 200 pounds then you can use the patch which is amazing. I'd go for either one of those, Implanon hurt so bad, but if you can handle the pain it's a three year contraception. Do NOT get an IUD, wit an IUD you still have to take a form of birth control. An IUD like Merina just keeps the baby from growing, it's pretty much going to kill the baby if you get pregnant. An abortion of sorts.
