Having Babies - Comments

  • I actually really struggled with this because I have Bipolar (as do one of my sisters and my mother) and it's likely at least one of my children will have mental problems. But a child can have mental problems regardless of genetic predisposition. At least I know what to look for and will be sympathetic instead of denying it like my father.

Your mother shouldn't have said that to you.

  • I think that was so uncool, to put it nicely, about what your mother said, both with the abortion and the HIV part. Just because someone has a mental or physical illness shouldn't disallow them from being a parent. They should just be watched more closely, for the child(ren)'s sake. Having HIV or depression or anything else doesn't make you a bad person. I'm sure you'd be a wonderful parent, whenever you have kids.

  • I think abortion is wrong when it comes to just depression. Depression is curable, and you can get over it with the proper medical treatment and therapy. I've been diagnosed with chronic depression since I was fourteen. It's a condition. The only reason I would get a abortion is if I could know that my baby would be confined to a wheel chair for the rest of his/her life, or either one of us were going to die.
