I totally get where you're coming from. Personally, I'm not really into reading slash and I've never written it. I have read slash stories in the past, because they were extremely well crafted stories and it wasn't so much about the intimate relationship between two male characters, it was about a much bigger plot. I don't think any less of those that do enjoy writing/reading slash, but I personally just can't get into it very often.
Bandcest honestly kind of turns me off a story before I even look at it. I agree with you, it's just very difficult for me to picture men from bands who clearly have a close, almost brotherly, relationship as a couple. It's like when people for example write about Sam and Dean from Supernatural as a couple... that to me is just wrong. They're brothers... just no. Haha.
Although @ Yotee makes an excellent point that there's hardly any--if any at all, because I've never seen them--stories with a band member and original male character. Honestly, I'd be a lot more inclined to read a story like that, because it would seem a lot more feasible, than the two band members. Maybe one day someone will run with that idea and I'll happily give it a go...
Anyways, as if you didn't already guess, I generally only read hetero fanfics. But I can understand why there's slash and I would never judge those that choose to read/write it. I suppose it works the same way, we as heterosexuals can't really imagine these celebrities in a gay relationship or even relate necessarily to a gay relationship, well... a gay person probably feels the same way about reading heterosexual pairings.
I mean, now that you mention it, I feel bad about people who have this opinion, then they read my stories... it just makes me feel bad. I'm into all kinds of band stories, whether it's hetero, homo, or asexual, or whatever your brain comes up with, if I like the story, then I'll probably read it. You know, it just depends.
