Can't stand [a7x] fanfics that... - Comments

  • I agree with a lot of that. However, as @Tom Hardy said, it really depends with the general ideas on how they can twist them and make them their own. But the emo girls and scene girls are ridiculous. Obviously not every female dresses or acts that way. I'd say it's okay to use actresses and actors, but I don't even like character pages for ANY fan fiction. Even if it is a fan fiction you still have to be able to create sort of your own world around whoever you're writing about.

  • I think all these scenarios are just basic plot lines. Like, if a writer has the inspiration from the idea and has enough imagination to branch out with it so it's not so cliche or overused it wouldn't be so bad. I have to admit that some of my stories have come from plot lines like these...

I love that you wrote this blog tho, to show that we're all tired of seeing the same thing over and over... and it's even worse when a writer combines like 3 or 4 of the things you listed.

"Brian and his friends kidnapped me and I love them all but mostly Brian and his girlfriend Michelle is a bitch that is just with him for his money, and I love him so I can just talk to him the way I want, but he's a psychopath to everyone else and suddenly after we had sex I got pregnant and just realized how this relationship wouldn't work. I then escaped so easily after being 'captive' for months and now I'm going to raise our baby alone." Then there is a sequel which doesn't justify anything. Facepalm

  • This is all so true!!! some stories are really terrible on here:S, one thing that bugs me that I see a lot of is the guys with super young girls..i get that its fantasy and all the power to you, but a 30 ish male with a 15 year old just brings on the creepy uncle vibe to me...if its illiegal in real life I dont want to be reading it..maybe thats just me...also the Slash gives me nightmares and or makes me laugh out loud..im an asshole, but its really not my thing. I cant help it.

  • Oh my God, all of this is just so true.
The actual blog post, all the comments, so fucking true.
I give you props for posting this, not many people would.
    And I, personally, hate slash.
    Like, that's so beyond gross.
I'm kind of like TooConfusedForWords, I try to think of something different and original, but sometimes it is hard.
I think that, even if the plot is overused and/or cliche, as long as you make the story good, then that's all that really matters.

  • & stop copying other authors who actually have good stories, but then remake them into your own using the same plot, characters, ect. Be original.

  • Personally I must agree with the use of real life girlfriends and/or wives. I find that a little creepy for some reason... especially if there's sex scenes involving both famous person and their real life spouse. That just feels wrong to read.

I also hate it when stuff is just flat out explained to the reader, rather than us getting to figure it out via actions or conversations with other characters. i.e My family is rich, if you didn't already guess and I get whatever I want, whenever I want.

Oh, and I especially hate when writers demand or beg for a certain amount of comments or subscriptions before they update again. If I see that in an A/N, you're guranteed I won't continue reading it. I don't mind commenting on stories I enjoy, but I won't do it just to stroke the ego of the writer. Pfft.

  • @ soapy
Nah, I'm happy you wrote this since it was a lot of stuff that you ALWAYS see on this site. I hate to admit it, but I know that even when I try to make my stories seem different they do fall into the same cliches sometimes and it bothers even me. And who knows, maybe with this new and better stories will emerge Wink

yeah its kinda weird when they are written in their late 20s and are in love with like a girl under 18 or something.
hmmm yeah kinda rattled cages about this. i mean sure write what you want. i mostly wrote this to complain about the use of emo/scene girls but blogs have to be 200 words or more so i just kept adding and adding, mostly the cliche story lines haa. this is just me though. but writers do need to branch out more on stories imo, fanfiction or not, writing a story you cant just willy nilly.

oh wow how could i have forgotten that one!? brilliant xD
but there are also the ones were they do adopt young girls and "fall in love" with them hahaha.
True, true. Or the ones where they don't include in the disclaimer that Jimmy's dead. I mean I don't expect him to be alive in everyone's stories, but an idea of what to expect would be nice with certain things. I think you've awakened a whole rant from everyone on what type of A7X stories they hate XD. My biggest peeve though is the ones where they have kids that would've logically been concieved at too young of an age.

  • I always get the ones where the guys are in their late 20s to early 30s and have 18 year old kids (not adopted) and in love with a member of the band... it creeps me out.

I mean I have some on that list (like all girl band going on tour and what not) but those were more gifts for my friends. And unfortunately if some of my stories do fall under things on the list it's because once a story is started it writes itself.

  • Oh my god, what about the one where her step father is abusive and the guys try to help her out? This is something I stumble upon almost all the time.
But yes, kudos, I stay away from those fanfics as well.
    August 24th, 2012 at 01:22pm
  • Agreed. :3 Especially the scene girls one. And the yourself one. I wrote myself into a oneshot, but that was because Sami wrote a oneshot for me and I wrote a oneshot for her based off the one she wrote me. So it wasn't like it was a full-length thing about me, and I wasn't the main character. Derp. But yes. Yes yes yes agreed.

  • This is perfect , holy crap .
    August 23rd, 2012 at 07:58pm
  • With slashes, about half the problems on this list are avoided tehe
And I don't mind the use of life partners, if they contribute more to the story apart from being a bitch.

Don't forget rushed endings and/or endings where you can tell that the author has just basically given up.
    August 23rd, 2012 at 12:17am
  • I don't mind the scene/emo characters the rest of it however is rather annoying. There is also a bum rush of these fan-fics and its a pain in my ass.

  • ohmygod there are alot of them that my earlier stories fall under. LOL which is why they are my earlier ones that i hate haha. shitty writing, what what!!! hahahahahaha
