Australia! Got a question about your plastic bank notes - Comments

  • I work on register, and HATE new notes. They're easier to deal with once they've circulated a bit.

Can we swap weather? It's currently 44.3 degrees here. Too bloody hot.

  • They only really stick together when they're wet. (Or obviously have a sticky substance on them)
My problem isn't with folding the notes. It's with keeping them flat after the fold in them has become too defined -.-
The colours are definitely helpful... I went to Hawaii the other month, I literally flipped through every note to find the one I needed, haha.

  • @ ghostie
It's actually warmer right now at -16. Yesterday it was -17 but with the windchill it felt like -28.

Actually Canada has cotton notes. I don't remember when they had the paper ones. They hold up much better in the wash.

  • I have lived in NZ my entire life so I'm not familiar with any other types of bank notes. I'm used to these plastic notes. Paper notes seem kind of weird to me, how they can tear and such.
I'm actually in Australia at the moment and I would gladly swap the weather with you. It's humid and hot, and just plain terrible here. NZ weather is much more bearable.

  • @ moi meme moitie
Different sizes? Ours are all the same size.

  • Let's swap weather. I like the cold, and this heat is killing me. Yes, that seems like a good idea.

We do have the Queen on the $5 note. They fold quite well once you get used to the money. I don't really think there really is a way to get used to them in a way, it just sort of grows on you. I'm not sure about other Australians, but my notes don't really stick together. I don't know, I guess it depends on each note?

I think that one of the main folding problems is the size of the note. I'm guessing. I mean, here each note is a different size, depending on its value. It's easier to fold a $5 bill than it is to fold a $100 bill.

This is all my opinion, so... ^^

  • @ DefindingCommonSense

Thank you! I didn't know how many places have the plastic ones. Have you seen Canadas notes? We have quite bright ones. Even more so now.

So have a question for you now.

  • I'm not actually a Australian, but a Kiwi.
I can tell you however that they have QE2 on the front of their $5 notes.
Ours are also made from polymere like theirs, and you are right that they don't fold very well, only if you keep them in your wallet for a while to create a developed crease. Sometimes you'll need to check they're not stuck together if they've been in your wallet for a while though
But they're pretty tough, and you'd have a hard time ripping them pretty much ever.

    :D

I'm a little jealous of how bright their notes are too.
