I like hearing people tell me how good my story is. My ego wallows in the temporary praise, but I only get a lot of attention in very separate spurs. The last time I got even remotely enough praise for my writing before Perfect World's review was a story I wrote in the summer of 2012 and I got a large fan base for it.
It's not a bad thing to like being told you're good. At least with even a few past successes, you can feel a little better about knowing that people do enjoy what you create for them.

When I'm not getting praise for my writing (which is pretty much every day of my life) I get sad because I feel like I suck at writing. (no praise = no self-esteem)

i am indeed a feedback whore.
I feel like that a lot as well, but you have to push through it. I'm overjoyed if I even get one comment (you have no idea how pleased I was to see a comment on this blog, honestly).

Also, did you know that in some states in the US (like Louisiana) is is illegal to write fiction that may be considered disturbing to others?

    stupidest law ever.
What kind of law is that? I could say that ducks are fluffy and adorable and someone could say they're greatly disturbed by that thought. Heaven forbid there be any actual conflict or complex issues in fiction to consider.
