To be honest, you can kind of compare Snow White to Cinderella because they were both living under abusive households. I think it was cast more lightly in the first one because it was Walt's first film, but Snow White is reduced to nothing more than a scullery maid after her dad dies. Plus, her crazy step mom tries to kill Snow White because of her own jealousy towards her. And yet, she remains kind, innocent, and good. She doesn't become cynical, which I think is a feat to match.

So what if she wanted to find love and friendship? I think after dealing with the evil Stepmom, that I would want to find it too. I would want to find some people who actually care about me.

Also, those are just one person's interpretations of those stories.

After all, in the actual Little Mermaid, she turns into sea foam. She doesn't get what she wants at all.

The Disney versions are more optimistic and are supposed to inspire hope and strength to move forward and grab your dreams (No matter what they are. Even if they do happen to be being with a man and just being a housewife. For some girls, that's truly what they want. I know one. She wants that because she sees it as the opportunity to have the family she never had.) through the inspiration of that hope.

He did take some stories that were relatively dark and make them pretty and wonderful.

I think that's something to admire.

I think you've greatly misunderstood what messages the Disney princesses are trying to send and that most of them did work for what they got.

Cinderella endured years of mental abuse at the hands of her stepmother and her stepsisters. She was bossed around and treated like a slave. She wasn't human. She wasn't just 'bossed around', she was flat out abused. But despite that, Cinderella kept a positive attitude about life. She kept going, believing her dreams could come true. She symbolizes hope. She symbolizes that no matter what you go through, don't give up the hope that your dreams are possible and that your life will improve. Think about it: if your parents treated you like nothing more than a slave, do you think it would be easy to be as kind and loving as Cinderella was? You probably wouldn't be. You'd be bitter towards the world. But Cinderella wasn't. She was caring and believed that dreams could come true. She helps people see that no matter how bad life may be, you need to keep your head held high and keep moving forward.

What Ariel did may be construed as selfish, but it can also be counted as doing whatever it takes to accomplish your dreams and doing what is best for yourself. Ariel wanted nothing more than to be a part of the human world, she didn't seem happy being confined to the world of mermaids and she didn't seem happy being a mermaid. It may have been selfish of her to leave her family behind, but it would it have been better for her not to go after her dream and live a miserable life just do others can be happy? And she did work. She helped fight an evil seawitch. She helped save her father and her lover. I would say that is doing 'something'.

As for Snow White..... Well, I can't really defend her. But hey, she was also made back in 1937. What can you expect?

You've completely misunderstood the messages Disney is trying to send to people. Most of Disney's movies have great messages behind them, but most people won't look beyond the surface of what they first see. Cinderella symbolizes never giving up hope. Ariel symbolizes going after your dreams no matter what. Mulan symbolizes courage. Belle symbolizes love, compassion, and not judging a book by its cover. Merida symbolizes being free and making your own choices. While their are some Disney movies that don't have good messages (like Snow White), most of their movies do.

Try to look beneath the surface and see the good in their movies.

I don't see going after your dreams as being selfish, no matter who you leave behind.
