Fanficion rant. - Comments

    Exactly! Like these other guys are totally okay with her going off and hooking up with some other dude. Like no, that does not convince me.

    OH MY GOD, I am so glad somebody realized where my username was from. Nobody's at least commented on it, so that makes me so happy, omfg. Hahaha.

  • Lmao I agree with all of those but you do realize there's a whole forum topic thingy about this where you can rant with others about this lol

  • I agree completely. Something I also hate from Fanfiction is when the main character can get away with making out with all five or four guys. Or when she is too good and everyone just hates her and she's just a freaking mary sue, urghhh.

    By the way; bitching name. Where's the bleeding little blue boy?

  • For number one, it all depends on the type of musician, the venue, etc. if you're at a 1D concert at some sold out Arena with security walking around everywhere, your meet and greet MIGHT last 5 minutes or so. That's about enough time for a girl to freak out, take a picture, get something signed, and then it's NEXT. On the other hand, if you have a smallish band that are above local level and doing medium sized tours in places a little bit bigger than bars where the musicians openly walk around with no real security "protection" then you can talk longer. Hell, I stood and bullshitted around with the lead singer of Black Veil Brides for 30 / 45 minutes after a show back in '10. Would that happen now? No, probably not, you know why? Time wasn't as big of an issue to them then as it is now.

    Wait. I'm getting way way off track. BASICALLY I'm saying if the atmosphere is more relaxed like it would be on a smaller tour you'd be more likely to make a connection with a musician that they'd be all "HEY GIRL YOU CUTE HERE'S MY NUMBA!" But even then, when I had Ashley Purdy's number for business reasons I was threatened with my life if I gave it out, I doubt they'd just give it out willy nilly for fun.

    I guess it all just depends on how the author wants to write it.

  • I write fanfiction purely to experiment with what famous people would do in different situations. Plus, those people who do that is basically writing out a fantasy. There is still people out there who actually write good fanfiction without the said flaws or cliches.

  • @ dizzy dreamer;
    Yeah I get what you mean. Famous people definitely wouldn't give out their numbers that easily. And yeah I dunno, it just weirds me out. If I was famous I'd feel a little uncomfortable with 14 year old girls writing romance or porn or whatever it may be about me.

    I'm totally aware that you get numbers at social events or whatever. It's even likely to get a number from some random person that you run into at a gas station. But the first point was solely for the fan fictions that have their character go to a meet and greet or something and get numbers from them. It would be more understandable if you met said band member in a club or a bar, but a meet and greet? Really? I just don't agree.

    It's all in what you like, I guess. But, even me as a reader of fan fiction, it does get weird to think about it sometimes because you are reading about somebody who actually exists.

    @ Join the Masquerade
    I know it's probably just their flaws in writing regardless, it was just that I had just came across a story that happened to be fan fiction and then I just wrote this.

  • I have a general understanding of the kinds of stories you're probably reading to get you to feel this way, but I feel like the people that write those stories would write their original fiction stories with the exact same flaws. It's not exclusive to fan fiction writing.
    April 1st, 2013 at 08:15am
  • I'm not a big fan of fan fiction at all. I think it's weak writing, but that's just my opinion.

    I do however disagree with your first point, I've received numbers/given numbers in like 5 mins before. Granted I'm not famous or have the number of any famous people. But it can happen. Especially if you're somewhere loud like a club and you're about to leave.

    I agree with the rest of your points though. I think these "Every member from some emo band falls in love with the title character who happens to have the same first name as the author" stories are kinda creepy and sad. I get that some people like them, I like plenty of things most people wouldn't, but still, when it's real people it;s just downright weird. Famous or not.

  • @ Madame Stark;
    Thank you! Haha. (I'm just super glad more than one person sees where I'm coming from. lmfao)
    But I totally agree. Fanfiction itself is pretty far fetched if you think about it but, for me to be interested in the story, I think it has to be somewhat realistic. I'm just not into a rushed, completely out-there story, I guess.

  • @ dizzy dreamer;
    Oh yeah I know what you're talking about...yeah that's a bit awkward.
    April 1st, 2013 at 07:55am
  • I know that fiction is the keyword, but unless it has to do with superheroes and what not (and I try and do this to them too because I'm a nutjob) I believe there should be some form of realism. That's what makes it good; realism is what makes the reader relay to the female character and dream about getting the hot guy's number at the end of the day. But, that's just my belief/style.
    April 1st, 2013 at 07:53am
  • I think it all depends on how serious the fanfiction author is trying to make the story, or whether it's more comical than not.

    I totally get that it's fun to step away from reality and go crazy with a fictional story - I'm definitely guilty of that. But, I don't know, maybe I've just been reading stories that don't appeal to me personally.

    And I knew number two was risky to put because there is the belief of love at first sight and instant connection, but the way it's written just seems so unrealistic to me sometimes where, once again, it just doesn't tickle my fancy,

    @ GlasgowXsmile
    I have no doubt that happens. I mainly see this in boy band fics (as far back as my Jonas Brothers phase) and it just seems odd that in a quick meet and greet that would happen. I'm not talking about the ones where they meet in bars or parties because that is obviously going to happen. For me I don't like when it's rushed and poorly told, I guess.

    @ ur_best_nightmare
    Right! It's cool to venture into what you wish but, unless of the fantasy genre, I feel like it should be somewhat realistic.

    @ kuba.
    I have yet to see Huger Games or read any books, so I have no idea what it's about for the most part. :P But I do think it's all based on how it's told because I'm definitely a sucker for cliches.
    April 1st, 2013 at 07:31am
  • I think ... the fact that some fan fiction are so hilariously unrealistic, is what makes it unique. The writer...isn't afraid to be unrealistic. I mean, does the Hunger Games seem realistic to you? No it isn't but, it's entertaining. It also depends on how the story is told, don't you think? I think, anything that is unrealistic or cliche so to speak, can be written in such a way that you have to overlook the fact that it's unrealistic, or cliche.

  • Join the Masquerade:
    It's "fiction". It doesn't have to matter if it's not realistic, as long as people like reading it. And I think they do, because this stuff never ever happens in real life and it's fun to pretend.
    ^ I agree.

    And with number two, that all actually depends. Things like that have happened.
    April 1st, 2013 at 06:56am
  • I totally agree with this post. Lol. Sometimes people are just ridiculously unrealistic. Like, really? It should have some semblance of reality to it.
    April 1st, 2013 at 06:38am
  • Maybe no numbers are exchanged but I've been invited to parties and shit from band members and sometimes numbers do get handed to you but it's very rare and you probably gotta be like hella hot to get the attention of a band member. I do think fanfics are rushed but I think it's because people wanna get to the good party of the story that they kind of push through everything
