Down With Slut Shaming! - Comments

It does depend, people use so many different words in a different meaning. Thank you for sharing that. I have never heard something like that and its interesting to know how one word can be used. :)

  • I know, I meant it as being thrown around jokingly. Well it depends on your definition of trashy. When I say "slut" it's a word to describe someone who is bad news, rude and gross I guess. It could be the old ways of learning the word. I hardly use the dictionary for words like that. My family has its own meaning behind a lot of words. I know both meanings. I've used them both times for both meanings. It's usually my family's meaning I use.

But someone's sexual decisions and clothing options doesn't really bother. As long as its not messing with me, I don't care.

I meant using slut to describe someone in a conversation who flaunts their body, money, or possessions. Not your family or friends.

"Whore" is definitely a different term (by the dictionary). Yet, I know people around where I live like to use it meaning "slut". I see what you're saying though. You're using the term "slut" meaning someone filthy or trashy, and that is how it was used back in the day (according to the dictionary). That's interesting to know how its used so differently in regions.

  • My parents brought me up with different views of all kinds of terms. Slut is word that describes a woman, or man, in my family. Anything used to insult someone is messed up, but its human nature.

I haven't called my friends sluts since middle school. I use it in conversation to describe someone. In my family, and the people around me, it's a term used for someone who flaunts (either their body, money or processions), manipulates and puts down others. That's how I was raised to believe. What y'all are describing with the exposing clothes and many sexual partners is what we call "whores". I really don't care if someone is a whore or not, it's not my business.

If someone is calling me names and making fun of me, I'll use the terms that fit them. They can be insulted by it if they want. I don't care. It surprises them though.

Thank you for commenting and sharing, I can relate with you! I'm removing "slut" and "whore" from my vocabulary completely now that I know it is wrong for me to judge.

I guess it all depends on if the word even offends you if you get called a "slut" or "whore". Thank you for sharing your thoughts, though. It helps me understand better. I am guilty of using this term, and I do think it is wrong of me to judge others just based on that. I know some girls call their friends sluts in my town, and I know they all tease. So, to them I know it doesn't bother them. I do think it depends if you purposely mean this to insult someone and if they take it to heart.

Yep. I say it right to their faces. They are usually surprised when I do too. Same with the term "whore".

But as stated, my grew up with the term "slut" different than the term described. The term described is "whore" where I live.

Do you use it to people's faces and to enforce the idea that there is something wrong with the person you are attaching it to? Because that probably bothers them, just sayin'.

I was a virgin who grew up in a very small town and once had a rumor started about me that I slept with guys for twenty-six cents. I had to deal with a lot of shit like that throughout school. I left that shithole town, thank God, but it took years to get over the damage done to me there.

  • And even if she has had a lot of partners and is showing a lot of skin (i.e. me sometimes) it doesn't mean she hasn't been with her boyfriend for almost two years now.

"Slut is just someone who is having more sex than you." One of my favorites.

Because older women (like myself) if they are getting laid don't tend to judge those who are. XD

  • The word slut has changed around, but the gist is still the same. I use it, and I use it a lot. I'm not going to lie. I probably will not stop either, it's hard to get out of a habit that I was born into. I still don't see much if a problem with it. Not saying there isn't, but not significant enough it bothers me or my town.

Only because I was brought up with a different meaning of the term "slut". What you have described my mother uses the word, "whore".

  • I have to admit that I have used words like slut or whore to describe females before but, now that I think about it, it was wrong of me.

Your sexual choices don't make up who you are. It's just sex and everybody enjoys sex. A woman -or a man- shouldn't be judged based on any aspect of their sexuality.
