  • I really love The Host too. I think the story is full of endurance and about understanding people. It is really a great example of how strong love can be.

  • I don't know if you will like it because you said you aren't a hardcore science-fiction girl, which is what The Stargate series is. I highly reccommend it though! It's one of my favorite shows to this day! The show's basic premise is about how the military found a device (called the Stargate) that is able to access wormholes, allowing people to journey to other worlds. The first show (SG-1) focuses on a specific team called, well, SG-1.

The main antagonist for most of the show's seasons is a race of aliens called the Goa'uld, a parasitic race that looks down upon other species (humans included) as weak, primitive, and stupid. Due to this vanity complex, they usually take on roles of pagan gods like Apophis, Osiris, Hathor, etcetera. They control humans/species by entering through the neck of the person and suppressing any knowledge, personality that the original "host" has.

I mean, if you like The Host, you will probably like Stargate. I feel like she got a lot of her ideas from the show, so you should at least try it out! There are a few love stories, but they are played down usually.

  • I totally agree with you. I watched that movie a couple of weeks ago at the cinema with my boyfriend and I adored it. I don't like sci-fi at all but that movie was amazing. Strangely enough, it kind of reminded me Scott Westerfield's novel serries called Pretties.

  • Personally, The Host seems like a watered down version (maybe even chick flick version) of the Stargate and Stargate SG-1 series. There are just a lot of similarities between the two.
