Haha we definitely should be. But yeah writing an ambiguous main character can be a bit of a strategy, I'm just not a fan of it personally.

oh gosh yes. Whenever I read a smut accidently I always realize it's some like 11 year old girl talking about banging someone. I'm 16 and uncomfortable reading this, much less writing it and you're 5 years younger than me! I don't know how people do it. Maybe I'm too bashful.

See it alllllllll goes back to character development. I don't want to read about a Mary Sue; I want to read about someone fascinating (ah puns about my username look at me).

    We should be friends, man!

I like that too. I think planning the plot out is sort of silly. Of course have a basic idea running in your head is great, but no need to have every detail down to the core figured out. I think the characters make the plot move more than the writer does, but that's just my opinion!

Yeah if I was famous I don't think I'd like the idea of some 13 year old kid writing in detail about them banging me. It's just weird lol.

But yeah the ones I've seen are pretty much how you described, some perfect celebrity falls for a pretty boring sounding girl and everything works out for them in the end.

I always try to make interesting characters - hopefully my readers agree - but I'm horrendous when it comes to planning so I basically just go for it. I love it when a character can just carry a story along regardless of where the plot is at.

I think fan fiction smut is THE weirdest thing in the world, it just makes me so uncomfortable and I don't understand why someone would post that. What if the celebrity by chance found it? I don't know, I just think it's weird. I think that should be kept in the mind of the creator and they can do with it what they want in their own mind. Of course, just another opinion; not fact! I just don't read it then. And I agree. There's SO many basic plots about celebrities where it has the celebrity as this perfect human being (which obviously isn't possible) and then this cutesy, small girl comes into their life with a lot of bogus problems that they fix and then they get married the end. The amount of times I have read this plot is sickening. Make the story juicy!

Wow we're getting really in depth with this haha.

Oh, I really like this idea! Plus, the more interesting the writer thinks the character will be, the more interesting the story will be for the writer to actually write. I'm going to keep this idea tucked away for the next time I'm trying to come up with a story so thank you!

P.S I'll send a profile comment your way right now Cute

As long as you're not just writing your own fantasies about banging some famous people then its not too bad. I do like the idea of some fan fiction and how it can be an extension on a movie series or tv show that's already ended. I just don't like the execution I see sometimes.

I come up with most of my characters by just fantasizing about the perfect human being, or the most interesting human being, or the most 'taboo' human being that I can think of. And then I create my plots by centering a story around what would be the most interesting scenario to throw those characters into. I agree with you. I think stories should definitely revolve more around the characters - or maybe that's just my personal taste. Either way, I think there should be a balance at least.

P.S. You can totally message me if you wanna be friends! I'm kind of too shy tbh.

You do have a valid point. When it comes from tv shows/movies and such it is kind of like stealing their work and then adding twists to it and lacks creativeness. And I can admit it's a bit odd, but I still enjoy writing it; oh well!

Nah I've never personally written any. I just don't like the format and the style. I want it to solely be my work and if I have to rely on the work of others (whoever wrote the story, characters settings etc) if its based on a fiction that already exists then I don't think I'm doing well enough. And if its based on real actors, musicians, celebrities or athletes I think it's kinda creepy. But that's just my opinion.

haha yes agreed! I mean, using your name isn't horrible, but it is a little cliche in a story. And honestly I've read some damn good fanfiction. Unfortunately, a lot of it is really weird erotica and poorly written, but oh well! I, myself, write some fanfiction but then I make the original characters all the more interesting to make up for the fact that I didn't write the band member's character obviously. Have you ever written ANY fanfiction?

No worries mate, good to see someone on this site asking about something that isn't "Hey I'm going to write a story about *band they like* would it be weird if they all have sex with a character who happens to have my name?".

I agree. Short stories such as one-shots/two-shots/etc are obviously plot driven because they're so short. However, I love your ideas about character development. I think its a great idea to think of your character as a real person you associate with everyday at school/work/etc. The more realistic the character, the better the story. I think relating to characters definitely makes a read more interesting. Thanks for the idea; you have a great one!

For shorter stories I think plot being the emphasis is okay, if the plot is unconventional and unpredictable. However I'm with you, character development is my big thing. It's one of the reasons I hate fan fiction. Characters who are dynamic and believable are what interest me.

I don't write many stories anymore personally but I like to think of the characters as if I would know them. I think about their actions and progressions and try and build them to somewhere. If it doesn't make sense for a character to be doing something yet I won't put it in. If that makes sense.
