I like writing in both, but I mostly use the 1st person because I feel like it makes the reader feel closer to the story, if you know what I mean. But on the other hand, I love the 3rd person because you can say a lot more things, you can talk about how every character feels like, and I think that's pretty awesome.

I prefer to write in first person, but sometimes I write in third person. It makes more sense to me that way. All the really good books I've read are all in first person. There's also a good series that takes two perspectives of two different characters.
Perfect Chemistry by Simon Elekles was a REALLY good/main inspiration for the way I write. I loved that the author didn't just write in one view point, they wrote in two.

Another example of third person is Daughter Of Smoke And Bone and Days Of Blood And Starlight, both by Laini Taylor. In my opinion, that series was flawless in the way it was written.

Not gonna lie, now that I've read your guys' comments, I feel bad about the way I write. I still don't know if anybody understands what's going on. Grrr, I'm confused >.<

I usually write in first person, and I often write in other character's pov in first as well but my prologues are usually in third I don't know why but I feel like it kind of adds to it in a mysterious manner or something. I don't know but that's just how I write. Also when I'm just reading a normal book and it's in third I instantly like it a little less than if it had been in first person.

I've got a story I'm writing right now in 1st person and I'm starting one in 3rd person shortly; both are easy for me except in my 1st person story, I write heavily sex-chapters and that causes me to be all blushy and what have you when I write is, especially when the main male celebrity character I fancy the pants off. In 3rd person its probably easier for me to write that kind of thing as its not 'I, me, we' kind of thing. But I started off writing in 3rd person do maybe that's why it's easier for me to write that way instead of 1st person.

It usually depends on the story for me. Like if I know I'm going to be switching points of view a lot, I'll stick with third person. Or if I want to elaborate more with a character who is generally more closed minded or oblivious to certain things I want to be made clear to the reader.

However, I'm usually more comfortable with first person since it conveys so much more emotion, humor, and insight. So I generally write more first person stories. But I'm not opposed to either. If that explains anything.

Honestly I'm not so sure anymore. At first I thought first person because it was just easier to write. It was rather difficult for me to write in third person, I think it's like what you said that my writing sucked when I wrote it that way but now since I've been doing role playing I've been doing all third person and it comes naturally to me. Now I have a hard time writing in first person. I know, I'm weird lol.

It depends on what kind of story you want to tell. If you want everything to be in the perspective of one person, it's perfect for first person. However, if you want many different takes of the same (or more) story/ies, it's preferable to use third person. POV changes get really, really irritating, you lose track or everything was punctuated by it. You don't even see it in professional novels. So it's best to use POVs wisely and it is an incredible skill to master all three POVs (including second) to write well. It's good that you're comfortable with one point of view as long it suits the story you want to write, but it's not terrible to go out of your comfort zone.

Personally, I like writing 1st person POV because I feel like you can connect more with the character then in 3rd person POV.

Yeah I feel like once I get comfortable I'll be able to freely write in third person and I just learned new today which saddens me I just learned it now but whatever as long as I got to learn it right? hahah. I'm very interested in writing differently and hearing everyone's opinions on the matter.

    @xMandiblesx
Haha yes that is true I could simply write in first person too but as I leanred above there is many ways to write in third person and a link! I think it could help you too since we both have run into the same problem!

I feel like I should have known this and I did not! This is interesting I also feel cheated by my schooling because I think this should be known in English classes, hell even in my writing class I took. -___- Thanks for the heads up this is going to make writing a lot easier and probably a lot more fun than what it was for me at the moment. Thanks for giving me the heads up.

There are different types of third person pov writing.
There's third person objective. That's where the author writes as if telling a story from their eyes only. It would be like you writing a story about a random person and all the things you know that go on in their life, however the person the story about may not have any real contact with the narrator or the narrator might not exist or play in role in the story.

There's third person omniscient. That's where the author knows everything about everyone. That's the third person you're referring to.

And last there's third person limited. That's where the author knows everything about only one person in particular. It's just like writing in first person only you're referring to the main character by their name and he/she.

Then there are other twists like third person story telling. Where a person is telling a story about someone but is also included in the story as an observer, or a friend to the main character.

There is also third person where someone else other than the main character is known about. Sometimes it could switch between characters and etc.

I can understand why some people don't like first person. I think a part of it has to do with the fact that not everyone thinks the same and not everyone wants to feel like they're inside someone's head because we aren't able to do that in life. Personally, I don't give a damn.

But third person also has a lot more variety, so I can really appreciate that pov also.

Well, you have to remember there are multiple types of perspective in writing than just "third person" and "first person." For instance, you don't necessarily have to write in third person omniscient if you don't trust your ability to pull it off. You could stick to third person limited and be able to keep that wider perspective (opposed to first person), but still have a focus on one character's perspective to keep from distracting yourself and the reader from the story you're trying to tell. I don't trust myself with third person omniscient and always write in first person or third person limited but I often like to switch which character I'm following throughout a story (usually just two characters- maybe three- at most, though). I suggest reading this. It's a very informative article on types of narratives. I found it a while back and it helped me out a lot.

When I first started writing, I wrote entirely in first person, because it was what I was comfortable with. Then as my writing developed, I found myself wanting to swap POVs between characters, because I wanted the reader to really get what more than just one character was thinking/feeling. And I wanted to challenge myself and expand my writing abilities.

Now I write mostly in third person, because I can do so much more with my stories that way.

I am so glad that you posted this! I've seen people complain in the past about reading things in first person and they are entitled to their opinions, but honestly....I'm not going to bother with caring what they think anymore when it comes to my own stories.

For me personally, it's much easier to write in first person in most of my stories. I can do third, but my usage of tense becomes really messed up. Also....I agree with what you said. I feel like I have to express what everyone involved in the scene is doing and that just takes forever because you have to establish and explain each person's personality.

I too get into ruts with my writing due to third person. I say if you are comfortable with writing in first, do it. Write for yourself whatever way you feel comes easiest to you and if other people don't like it, it's their loss. Mr. Green

I personally prefer to read and write third (or second) person, but rarely first. I don't feel I pull of first person well.

Personally, I absolutely hate, hate, hate first person. It just irks me to read about things in that view point, just the way it flows and everything is just so off to me. And filtering thoughts through the character's point of view is just asdfghl;. I just hate it. Granted, some people can pull it off and then I just fall in love with the story. It's rare that I find someone who can vary sentence structure, details, flow, etc. enough for me to find 1st person enjoyable.

Personally, I write in 3rd person POV, but it's in the present tense. And tons of people hate that, but I can't seem to write in past or future because it just irks me for some reason. I find it easier than first because you aren't constantly trying to start sentences out with the word I, and its actually easy to come up with sentence variations.
