You need to just open up to her. Plan and simple. Don't go pour out your soul because that may be over bearing.
Just tell her... "Hey I like you, like a lot. I don't want to ruin our relationship because of it. I would want you to be my girlfriend if you're okay with that. If not that's fine, I just needed to tell you." Something along those lines if you wish. Just make sure you're in private when you tell her and that you're calm.
Age is just a number but there is a limit. (well to me there is, I don't know about you.)
Just ignore your friends and do what your heart tells you. You'll be fine.
And another thing, about the age difference: I was 16 when my 18 year old boyfriend and I got together. Two years is not a huge difference at all. I think your friends are just teasing you, and I wouldn't be surprised if his friends did the same thing to him. Honestly, it was a little weird because I didn't know anyone in his grade well, and his friends (well, the guys) don't really talk to me much. But I know that a lot of the relationships in my town like that (older boy and 2-3 year younger girl) seem to work out well. The only thing I'd keep in the back of your head is college, which is where my boyfriend's headed. If you can understand that and believe that the two of you can trust each other, I see no reason not to try!
