Site Rule Update: Bashing/Public Ridicule - Comments

  • @ dru vs. slut shaming
No. That was the definition of bashing when you google it.
    bash (bsh)
    v. bashed, bash·ing, bash·es

    v.intr. Informal
To engage in harsh, accusatory, threatening criticism.

It's a bit easier to explain to people and then differentiate the two. As I've said before in many other blogs, debates are fine, when you are insulting each other and putting each other down, or perhaps comments with the intent of being malicious then that is bashing and that will get a ban.

  • Harshly critiquing is bashing now? Does this mean that all heated debates will now get users banned as we are harshly critiquing the points of the debate?

  • @ aradia megido.
I think it depends on how you word the blog about your parents. If you're initially saying (out of context and in context) that you want to take a gun and shoot your parents or calling your parents idiots or bitches or something along those lines, it'll be banned (I think) but if you're just saying something like this:

"My mom is pissing me off. She told to do the dishes but I don't want to. I just wanna play Minecraft."

Then that'll be ok. I complain about my little brother a lot on here but it's usually nothing that threatens him or anything (except for maybe a good swat to the butt).

  • I generally complain a lot about my own parents here, which could possibly qualify as bashing. Many members do as well, I've seen. Does even that constitute an immediate ban? (Genuinely curious.)

  • This is why I stay out of the blog section mostly, I have a quick temper and what I may not see as bashing but as an opinion others might not agree.. so yeah, another reason as to why I'm hardly in the blog section.

It's actually rather hard to accidentally bash someone. I mean, if you're insulting someone or bashing someone you are basically in a mindset that you want to say something maliciously. For instance when people bash others it's usually when they're mad, when they're mad they want to lash out which ends up bashing. But since I don't know the definitive answer for that, I could ask an admin for you. :) I mean, either way they more than likely will get a ban so that they can learn that that sort of behavior isn't tolerated on Mibba, and to better control their emotions/temper.

  • So if someone accidentally offends someone, in such a way that can maybe be considered "bashing", they get banned immediately, without getting a chance to explain themselves? Not trying to instigate anything, I'm just genuinely curious.

  • @ odessa grey
Oh no, swearing is perfectly fine on Mibba (as long as it isn't in a blog/article title or username.)

  • I know it was an example in this one, but I was wondering if swearing is something that will result in banning too?

Oh it's going to be in the site announcements, too. tehe But not everyone reads those, so trying to get the word out so that we might be able to minimize the occurrences. Yes, we staffers are tough cookies. Smoke

  • @ little dove
Not a problem haha. Cute I was pretty sure it would be in the site announcements if they changed any rules. I can definitely tell staff members are getting this like 0 tolerance policy though.... It's hardcore. tehe

It's more so how the rule is being handled has changed.^.^ Before warnings were given if it was the first time or very minor, now any and all cases are banned immediately. Sorry about the confusion.

  • I thought the title meant the rule was updated or changed in some way. Facepalm
