  • Thanks so much for such a helpful insightful blog. It made me feel much better. I am new to Mibba and also getting back into the creative writing game--keeping your blog tucked away. All good things come in time and most importantly take time.

Aha same here. I'm happy to see the stories section so active these days. It makes me happy how our little baby site is growing into an adult now. tehe Oh and, thank you. Arms

    LET ME LOVE YOU

But it's true. I wrote an Avenged Sevenfold one shot for a contest and it got 50 readers in the first couple of minutes. My other stories don't even have 50 readers XD

*cough* I love your writing, I'm going to personally comment on everything you've wrote *cough*

I hardly ever write fandom related stories, the only ones I have done are just one-shots that people have requested

  • My stories don't get feedback for a simple reason: I don't write in the cool fandoms and therefore nobody gives a shit.

I write for myself and only for myself, what matters the most to me is how much I like my work. Others liking it is just an extra perk.
    I love this & agree. c:
For me, writing in the fandoms/genres I love can keep me from getting attention in the community, (on Mibba because the site isn't centric to my interests, and on Tumblr because I don't write within the exact boundaries of romance that people like.) But I'm always proud of my work. Sometimes I wish there were people actively involved and excited about what I was writing, as it was in my earlier Mibba years, but in the end I'd rather have somebody who really understands my messages on more than just a surface or entertainment level, and often, I have to be that person.

You make a lot of excellent points and you're absolutely right. I've grown used to getting feedback now but I don't think I would ever stop writing if the feedback ever lessened. I use writing as therapy for what plagues me in my life and as stress relief.

Mibba is quite large now. I myself sometimes have to weed through a lot of stuff that doesn't interest me personally until I find what specifically does. That doesn't bother me though because honestly....I'm happy to see other people just writing in general. Congratulations on becoming part of staff by the way. You always give sensible advice and you're super nice. Mr. Green

I agree with you though especially on the part about those who complain. Some of them don't put in a lot of effort and expect results. With anything in life you have to put for an effort to gain.

  • Writing in a popular fandom and/or a popular genre is probably one of the biggest reasons why certain users have so many readers compared to others on the site. If you write in a fandom that is wildly popular on Mibba, your story is more likely to get noticed simply because it's a part of the fandom. A One Direction story is going to get more notice than say a fanfiction story about an anime. It'll get more notice simply for being One Direction. An Avenged Sevenfold story will get more notice simply for being Avenged Sevenfold. A romance story will get more notice than a horror story simply for being romance. It's certainly not a coincidence that writers who have a lot of readers write in popular fandoms. It's not a bad thing though, it's just how it is on any website, writing or not.

Putting work into getting your work noticed is a big thing too. I've noticed a lot of people who complain about not having a lot of readers are people who don't want to put any work into it, they want to update and instantly get their story noticed. I think a lot of people just need to realize you need to recommend and talk about the story in order to get it noticed. Mibba is a larger site than it was years ago. It's harder to get your stories noticed because there are much more stories getting updated on a daily basis.

But eh, I've never seen the big deal of not having as high numbers as another user. My stories don't get a lot of notice, but I also write in fandoms and genres that are not popular on Mibba. Anime and video game fanfiction isn't popular on Mibba and neither is horror. Not even my friends will read my stories when I post them because they're not in popular genres that they like, but I'm largely okay with that. It doesn't bother me and I understand why my friends do it. I'm happy with my stories and that's what matters to me. I put all my heart and soul into my work so, it doesn't matter to me if someone reads it or not. Sure, readers/subscribers/comments are nice but I'm not gong to get distraught over not having as much as someone else. I write for myself and only for myself, what matters the most to me is how much I like my work. Others liking it is just an extra perk.

I guess I just think people make too big of a deal about the number. It just makes me kind of sad to see so many users doubting themselves because of a number. I wish there was a way to help people have a bit more confidence in their writing so they don't rely so heavily on the numbers.

  • Yeah some of mine are like that too because everyone's had time to read it lol

Oh yeah...I agree. I've seen that too. Also...sometimes in a story with really long chapters....that gets a lot of numbers also. One of my stories is like 30 chapters long and still unfinished but I've been writing it off and on for two years. It has like 1,000 reads but mostly because I've been writing it for so long, ya know?

  • I think sometimes people can have a high number of subs and recs for a relatively short story because they delete the chapters and rewrite it under the same heading. So it's all comments, etc. for that story, but not that version of it.

I'm not saying that everyone does this, but it has been done.
