You might want to explain your impatient nature to him flat out.
Because it's entirely possible that he may be planning to wait to ask you in person.
He also may send you a really clever gift with a note or something else in the way of "asking". (Like a gift that has sort of an "inside joke" feel for the two of you.)
I would try not to read too much into it though. Don't think about anything bad unless you actually have reason to. :)
