Don't Let Anyone Make You Feel Ashamed for Writing - Comments

  • Very great blog post. I feel that this can be applied to more "___ shaming" activities that go on in this world. Kudos to you.

    That's good, at least they didn't freak out or anything, I guess, and I like how one of them asked if it was necessary. At least they handled the situation with maturity.

  • @ serendipity;
    Mhm it is unfortunately very common. :c
    To be honest, when I see a celebrity mocking fanfiction, I lose a lot of respect for them as a celebrity and a human being. They're mocking and hurting their fans, the people who have tirelessly supported them and helped make their career what it is. I can't really respect any artist who would treat their fans like that.

    Thank you. ^^

    Thank you~

    I don't really know much about Moran so I can't really say anything about what she's done during her career, I only know she's a journalist from a quick Google search aha. ^^"
    Thank you. c:

    I'm not too sure how it all played out, I only know what I know from reading a few articles. But from what I read, it seemed like the actors didn't know what Moran was planning. She handed two of them an excerpt from a fanfiction and asked they to read it aloud, each actor reading from their character in the story. I know that one of the actors (I'm not sure which) made the point to ask Moran if doing this was really necessary to do. She said something to convince them and they ended up reading it. I don't think the actors knew that Moran had given them an explicit story to read and if they had known it was explicit, I don't think they would have read it. For the most part, I think the actors handled it pretty well.

  • Quite honestly, I feel bad for the actors that had to read the stories. They were caught in the middle of her little 'fit', we'll call it, and that can't be very comfortable. I'm not in the Sherlock fandom either, so I don't know the actors' take on slash fan-fiction, but regardless. I can't help but wonder if they caught on to what she was doing, went along with it, or just felt caught in the middle.

  • caitlin moran is a massive idiot and idc if that's bashing. she's an awful hypocrite and the worst example of a feminist, because she's not. she's a white supremacist capitalist transmisogynist and she has never said anything useful, ever. all she does is insult and and accuse and sneer so I'm not surprised she's attacking fanfiction and you've done a fab job defending everyone who has been hurt by her comments. • I love this so much! And it's absolutely true.
    I hate whenever any writer tries to shame another. It makes me angry and it's just so completely unnecessary.

    And I think you did a really great job in expressing your opinions. :)

  • The sad thing is, this is a common thing. This has occurred in many other fandoms. Popular artists and/or actors are given fan fiction that have circulated around the web to write, and in turn everyone shares a hearty chuckle at the writer's expense. It's so belittling and unnecessary. In an interview, there are SO many other things you can discuss besides taking swipes at people doing something that makes them happy. It's saddening. No one should ever be made to feel shame for whatever they like to write. People like you are wonderful. Smile

    I just felt like someone needed to do it since so many people are being discouraged by it, you know? c:

  • This is extremely well written and you aren't bashing or being hateful at all, simply giving an opinion and proving an excellent point. You're lovely.

  • I love you for this. I had no idea she did this and I'm really surprised. I can't believe someone could do such a thing. Luckily there's someone like you to pick up those who were ashamed by what she did. You're my hero. Arms
