    I agree with you about the "found footage" sub-genre, but The Bay really does it well in my opinion. Technically, it wouldn't be considered 'found' because the main character is releasing the footage intentionally and against government orders, but it really does disease-type footage movies well without the humans being infected the main horror.

    My favourite ones to watch, read and write about definitely have to be psychological, paranormal and of course, supernatural. When writing them - psychological especially - it's like a second nature to me.

    I just love horror in general though haha.

    That's it :D One of the first Splat Pack movies :3 I think the suspense in Blair With is what made it so creepy, cause you never see the witch and you think you're going to and it's impossible to relax.

    @ Lee Hi;
    You have no idea how happy your comment made me. XD I feel the same way about paranormal horrors, what with the ghosts being hard to stop or unstoppable and all. A lot of people I've met (at least on Mibba lol) seem to disagree there, so it makes me kind of happy to see another person who agrees. OwO

    Mhm slasher films are good every now and again. They can be pretty entertaining to watch. c: It's just that when I'm looking for a scare, I'm not going to turn to slasher because slasher is simply not scary. I'd rather turn to sub-genres I know might give me a scare instead of ones I know won't scare me. Speaking of Nightmare on Elm Street, I have to agree there~ The remake was surprisingly good. A lot of horror remakes don't end up very well but the remake for Nightmare on Elm Street did pretty well.

    Insidious intrigued me simply because it used a pretty different concept. Astral dimensions aren't something you see in the media very often, certainly not in horror films, so it was an interesting change of pace for the director(s) to take that turn. Although I do agree that Insidious certainly wasn't as good or scary as everyone hyped it up to be. XD I haven't seen Insidious Chapter 2 yet but eh, I'm sure I will someday when it gets released to DVD. c:

    Aha I guess I'm the opposite of you lol. I like paranormal movies because there's a higher chance of them terrifying me. That's what I seek out in a horror movie, my favorites are always ones that can give me chills and have me looking over my shoulder. It's oddly fun in my opinion. o^o I think for you, the reason you keep watching them might be because the fear gives you adrenaline. Even if you don't realize it, your body is probably enjoying the bursts of adrenaline your fear is giving you. :3

    Ringu is a pretty scary movie. The original and the American version take different turns after the second movie and I think the Japanese movies take a better turn. The Japanese version of the movies are definitely worth checking out, they're much better than the American remakes. Oh god Dead Silence. Shocked I hate ventriloquist dolls, they're creepy little things, so the movie scared me a hell of a lot as well. It only made it worse than my room is covered in dolls. Not ventriloquist of course but after watching that, didn't matter much to me when I had a dozen little glass eyes staring at me. XD Don't watch that movie in a room full of dolls. tehe

    The Ju-on movies can be a bit confusing. They don't follow a solid plotline like The Grudge does, they're more jumpy and they go from story to story. But they're really scary, more so than The Grudge in my opinion. All of the movies in The Grudge series are terrifying, both American and Japanese. The Grudge is one of those unique series that has the same director for both the American and Japanese movies (excluding The Grudge 3) and that director is one very well known and amazing Japanese director, so it's only natural they'd be really good. If you want a good scare though, you should definitely give Ju-on a watch. There's two main movies and two spin offs. You might not sleep for a few days though. Weird

    I remember The Blair Witch Project. >.< It was so boring. OmO I'm not even sure why that got such great reviews or why everyone hyped it up, it was really a rather boring movie. It's the same with August Underground's Mordum. So many people hyped it up as this "gross and scary" movie but... It was boring? I don't know, I don't see how people can find found footage to be so good. A matter of person taste I suppose lol.

    Cabin Fever... That one sounds familiar. Is it the one with the flesh eating virus out in the woods? Or am I thinking of a completely different movie? XD

    Found footage films are getting bad. Paranormal Activity should've ended after the first one. The others were bad and this new one looks like pointless, unoriginal shite. Does anyone remember The Blair Witch Project? Is one of the few found footage films that were any good. Monster films are getting a bit old now too. No one can seem to think of anything good, other than a Godzilla remake (that I'm super pumped for.) And torture porn is my favourite. I don't have much of a reason why, but I love Final Destination and Dog Soldiers and Cabin Fever and genuinely great movies like that.

    I personally don't mind psych horror much, it's just the paranormal ones that get me. I mean, I always somehow end up watching a paranormal horror movie, only to regret it for days after because I am literally scared out of my mind for weeks after. Like just this weekend I saw The Conjuring, which I didn't have many high hopes for because, in my opinion, a lot of recent (and by recent I mean within the last 5 or 6 years) American horror movies haven't been good at all. For example, Insidious wasn't very good in my opinion. I think a good horror movie, paranormal at least, needs to be able to terrify you. The Conjuring has had me looking over my shoulder and hesitating in the dark since I saw it on Friday night. Like I said, I don't necessarily like paranormal horror films but I watch them anyway which is stupid because let me tell you, having horrendous anxiety where I am on edge about everything already, coupled with looking over my shoulder for some sort of grotesque demon...I am obviously some sort of masochist Facepalm

    But I can say that Asian paranormal horror is way scarier, at least from what I've seen. I saw the Japanese version of One Missed Call (or one of them I should say) and it scared the hell out of me. I watched the American remake and...it wasn't good. I was bored through it, honestly. I've yet to the see the original The Ring, but since the American version also wasn't scary or very good, I figure it'll be pretty scary. American remakes and slasher horror movies tend to suck, at least to me. Same for the found footage ones. The only American horror movies I found actually scary were The Conjuring like I mentioned, Dead Silence (because I HATE DOLLS AND DUMMIES) and The Grudge. The Grudge is probably still the scariest movie I have ever seen to date. Part of me wants to see the Japanese version but another part of me would rather not scar myself mentally anymore than I am, so I'm putting that plan on an indefinite hiatus, haha.

    I'm a big fan of psychological horror. I love me some suspense. tehe I also really like paranormal as well just because it's so much harder to defeat the enemy and it really focuses on the suspense than the gore. It gets under your skin. The Woman in Black is one of my favorites. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I was watching it when it was in theaters.

    I still am a fan of gore, though. I do like some slasher films. Scream is one of my favorites as is A Nightmare on Elm Street. I really liked the remake of the latter. I thought it was a lot scarier than the original, but I'm more biased towards the original Freddy.

    I'm actually not a big fan of watching horror films but I adore horror stories of any kind. To me, the mind plays up the horror more than a camera can. Psychological is wonderful but paranormal stories take the cake.

    Aha, the first story I wrote and posted on Mibba was a psychological thriller and it was so tough to write because of how different the mindset is, I guess. I love them though.
