Independence =/= Individualism to me. Individualism was, to me, always more about being true to yourself rather than following the thinking of the crowd in order to be accepted. Such as listening to popular music instead of what you actually want to because popular music is accepted in society versus something different. Or not wearing the name brands everyone else wears if you don't like them versus wearing them because everyone else is.
