Yes, people joke. But, women's hockey has never been taken seriously, so these types of comments set back women's hockey and its emergence into the sports world. I don't know if you intended to come off so rude to me, but it was unnecessary. The comment was not made as a joke, he was saying it as commentary. Context plays a big role in speech.
Also, humor is subjective. Not everyone has to laugh at the same things just because you do. I respect that you view this in a different way, but in turn you should also respect myself and the others who view this as despicable.
@ corey crawford It makes me so mad too! I honestly don't watch women's hockey for the fact that... I don't know how to watch it (no real channel coverage, and I'm too lazy to watch things on a live stream) but I do enjoy watching them play in the Olympics! It's such a different style of play too, so it fascinates me. I just hate seeing people who worked so hard for something, being so discredited. It sucks for women trying to break out in a sport that has a national team, such as the NHL or the NBA.

I almost do too. That is so awesome! It just cracks me up that people try to be sexist toward the Olympics when these women are out there rocking the half pipe and whatnot just as good, if not better, than the men. I just don't see the point in people treating them differently any longer. It's a new millennium.
"I was prepared to see a women's hockey game, but instead we got a hockey game!"
*sigh* Once again people on this site overreact to supposed sexism. You do realize he was probably making a joke right? Not everything needs to be taken so seriously. People joke. We're human, it's what we do. Women need to stop being so damn defensive about things, acting as if the whole world is out to get them, and just join in the laughter. Because stereotypes exist. And stereotypes make for good jokes. I'm Chinese, and I'm the first in my group of friends to crack jokes about it. No sweat off my back.
What an ignorant thing to say I hope someone important calls him out on it. I always hear comments about how women are too stupid or delicate to do sport but now I'm laughing about it. So far, the female athletes from my country have won five medals at Sochi, four of those being gold, whilst the men have only won one gold. I almost feel embarrassed for the sexists. Almost.
Oh my. That's just disgusting. It's 2014, women have done some pretty amazing things since being able to compete in the Olympics. Just because a person has breasts and ovaries doesn't mean they are any less tough than the men. They fought for their spots on their home team, they fought for a spot on the Olympic team. The only difference is that we recognize the most of the men that play due to the coverage it gets. Ugh, this makes me mad!
@ orgasm addict I couldn't believe it, his partner didn't even skip a beat or anything. Just thinking about the look on his face and how he said it still makes me so angry. It seems like we can never escape these attitudes, especially when they are being nationally broadcasted for everyone to receive.
