Fanbases That Drive Me Crazy! - Comments

  • @ grant nicholas.
Just to remind you I said majority of the fan bases so I wasn't grouping them all together. And I said some don't care about their fans. I'm thinking bout deleting my FB cause bands like BVB they claim their against bullying and so on but the way most of their fans acts tells an entire different story. As for the saving life thing I just think some believe all cause of that, that these people should be worshipped like they're Gods or something all cause they've had an impact on their lives.

  • I don't understand Black Veil Brides at all. I watched them play at a festival once and the majority of the in between song banter was Andy going off his head at various people for not liking the band. Like fuck, ignore it and actually play a decent show then? Their fans come across as the kind of people that like to be judged for how different they are as they scream "DON'T JUDGE ME JUST BECAUSE I'M DIFFERENT!"

I don't like Bieber or 1D because they're talked about on mainstream news all the time when no other bands are. Like, not like that. They are tools of the media industry.

On top of that unfortunatly there are bands/muscians that don't care about their fans as long as they get money. As sad and devastating as this notion of your idol might be its true.

Some feel like they can treat their fans like crap cause they know there's always gonna be those who are gonna keep buying their merchandise and stuff. Why would you want to basically give a pay check to someone who treats you like crap I don't know and I don't understand it.
It's their job, so I see less of a problem with this. Everybody needs to feed their families, provide a roof over their heads, etc. I don't think many musicians treat their fans like shit, but it comes across that way if they don't do signings, won't take pictures, and don't want to interact with strangers any more than the average person might want to.

  • Honestly though, what a lot of people forget is that music is a business, like it or not. Musicians are going to bank on being different or unique to sell their music because that's what the business requires for you to be to gain commercial success. Music labels aren't going to just sign up every Jim, Dick and Harry that sends them a CD. They have to stick out to gain interest. Every band, regardless of how much they try to say they don't care, wants to make money. Money is what drives the business, money is what everyone needs to live on. The only people that really make music for the sake of it now are the old greats and the ones that did achieve commercial success. Hell, I'm studying the music industry at university and it's clear as day that a lot of people do care about money. It doesn't mean they don't care about their fans. You need money to survive and the basic primal instinct is to do something that benefits you as a person.

Although I do agree with what you're saying about the fanbases, I think it's a little harsh to group everyone together. I've met decent One Direction fans, lovely Justin Bieber fans and I know someone who's absolutely the nicest person I know and she listens to Blood on the Dancefloor. In these fandoms, you find it's the tiny minority of die-hards that aren't nice. And for those people, I agree 100% with you. Forcing an opinion onto someone through whatever means isn't right when it comes to music as we're all different. I mean, I try to sell bands to my friends all the time and if they don't like them, fair enough. I've had people tell me to go die because I don't like Black Veil Brides or Asking Alexandria. It isn't funny and it's quite frankly not why I'm on social media.

In the end though, music can save some people, but not in the way you're thinking. I didn't know what I was going to do with my life going through school. I had no idea whether going to university was a good idea or whether I was even going to do anything. I wasn't depressed about it, I wasn't suicidal, but my life was going downhill. Music saved me from that and gave me a career path and in that respect, I'd say it saved my life, 100%. Bands like Feeder, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, McFly and Madina Lake gave me those paths and pretty much stopped me from being stuck in a dead-end job for the rest of my life. In that respect, they saved my life and I don't think I can ever stress enough how much that means to me. It may be an overused defence but for so many people, it's the truth. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's reason for anyone to go around and say "oh, you need to listen to this band because they saved my life" because each to their own and what works for one won't work for another. I know that bands I don't like have done what my favourite bands did for me, but I don't think it's overused or lacking in truth when people say that a band saved their life because there is more than one way of saving someone's life.
