  • They do have a pretty impressive alumni list. Well whatever you decide, I hope you get in!

Ah, did she really! That's so cool. A lot of really cool alumni have graduated from ual (though I expect you already knew that) so I think I'm hoping I get in, hahah. Good on her though~

Yeah, it's pretty difficult and all my attempts are pretty dismal. XD

Yeah tbh I don't really know, I just stuck "Australian slang" into google and did a quick skim. But apparently ankle biters is what you call children and little kids? And then the kangaroo one means someone's "Intellectually inadequate". Shifty Yeah, I dunno.

  • Brian Molko of Placebo :) I watched and recorded an online ceremony a few years ago when he got an honorary award there. He did an acting degree.
    March 30th, 2014 at 01:29pm
  • Oh that's true actually. A lot of youtubers who try to attempt the aussie accent sound either kiwi or british or both, and like, no. No.

ankle biters? ohh is that like 7/8 jeans? jeans that hit your ankle?

lmfao I have never heard that phrase in my life. Idk about kangaroos, but just the other week we had a possum in the house. It's still lurking around our house though. Outside. Thankfully.

OMG REALLY WHO AND I'm going there over the summer! Or at least if none of their open days fit during our trip the guy who visited my school told me to email and we can plan a tour!

    @ swell
What on earth it's actually difficult I spent like two weeks there and all I managed to do was sound like a drunk ass Kiwi. Hand
The slang is pretty fun though. I really like "ankle biters", but tbh I'm not sure if anyone says a lot of them. Like I know hardly anyone says g'day (unless it's ironic. Or else they're elderly). Does anyone actually say "they've got some kangaroos loose in the top paddock"? lmfao

  • Just gatecrashing ;) my best friend went to CSM, she graduated last year and it opened a lot of doors for her in the creative world (she's a fashion designer)
    March 30th, 2014 at 01:04pm
  • A day in Australia and you'll get the accent down pat. The slang isn't hard to pick up either XD If you shorten everything, you'll be good.

I always make puns with my name - it's become a word in my daily vocab. When I say something's swell with my friends, I always burst out laughing and everyone looks at me like o.O lmfao

  • v. OMG my favourote singer went to Goldsmiths GO THERE!
    March 30th, 2014 at 12:58pm
  • @ castiel's vessel
Something like CSM, Chelsea, Goldsmiths, and then maybe a few in Scotland, but I'm not entirely decided on the UK unis as compared to Aus ones. I'm hoping to do something along the lines of graphic design/communication design (with hopefully some illustration on the side, but not too sure yet).

Wow that sounds perfect! Legit everything about that sounds perfect haha. I don't doubt you'll get them UCAS points. Yes
    March 30th, 2014 at 12:51pm
  • What unis are you thinking about going to in the UK? I'm not in uni yet but my application was submitted in December and I received all my offers, so if I get the UCAS points needed then I'll be going to study in St Mary's university, in Twickenham. It looks amazing and the course is literally the only one I found: Creative & Professional Writing and Theology & Religious Studies. I get to do joint honours in two subjects that I love.

What course are you wanting to do?

  • @ swell
Ah, really! I'll definitely keep that in mind, thanks. (I'm also sorely tempted to make a pun with your username, but I'll refrain. XD)
Nah yeah there's nothing there lmfao

I really really want to, haha! But I've got to absolutely perfect my accent ('course, there's time for that, so). Naughty

Ah, I see. Thanks for the link! It's very helpful (and it looks cool, too Cool).

  • I go to RMIT and a ton of my friends go to Monash so if you ever have questions about any of them hit me up :)
Yeah no there's nothing in WA, tehe

lmfao omg, please do. That would be way funny.

This might help you understand the system here.

  • TAFE is kiiinda like uni but not. You go to classes and stuff but you don't get a bachelor's degree out of it unless you're doing TAFE as a pathway into a university. You get certificates from TAFE, and I think cert 4 is one below a bachelor's degree.

  • @ whiskey rivers.
    Ah, that sounds perfect.

    @ swell
I HAVEN'T DECIDED YET IT'S LITERALLY 50/50 BETWEEN AUS AND THE UK UGH
But definitely Vic (I'm defs looking at RMIT and Melb Uni cos my parents went to those unis, and then after that maybe Monash and maybe maybe maaaaaaayyybeeee Swinburne), and my mum wants me to look at unis in NSW. I actually really really liked WA (or at least Perth and Mandurah) when I visited but my parents are like "dude there's nothing there" so yeah tehe
And it wouldn't be bad because there's like 1 or 2 people from my school also applying to Aus per year which is like you said a huge pro. Definitely feel ya on that last one.

I'm debating if I should get the accent down pat because I have an American accent and it'd be a fuss to have to explain that """"technically"""" I'm Australian lmfao jokes, jokes. But my friend and I are considering doing a English accent when we go to uni and then slowly, over the course of the year, start talking the way we normally do, just for shits and giggles.

    @ Join the Masquerade
I'm confused about TAFE (read a bit about it, though). If I were to be accepted into and then went to RMIT I think I'd be doing TAFE (is that even how you use it oops sorry), but I'm not 100%.

Also if I were you I would've dropped teaching too. File Them little kids are vicious things. And idk it would be like never leaving school. Shifty

  • 1) I live in South Australia so there's only 3 choices. Flinders is too far away for me, and Uni SA seemed more like a 'super tafe' as everyone calls it. I went to Adelaide Uni because it's in town, pretty, and overall I like the general layout of their programs.

    2) I like it. Everything is pretty easy to access and they're usually easy to deal with if you have a problem or need to transfer.

    3) I did a year of science before I transfered to teaching/arts. I dropped teaching, graduated arts and am starting accounting there next semester.

  • I GOT TO A UNI IN AUSTRALIA COME TO AUSTRALIA WE ARE SO GREAT
omg I knew you were aus'n I knew it you said it ages ago and I was like NO I SWEAR YOU'RE AUSSIE and you are
Where abouts are you planning to apply (or at least, what state are you looking at?)

    1. I knew I wanted to go to the uni I go to because the campus was lovely and it's situated in the heart of the city and it's so accessible. Also, the course I wanted to get into was at said uni. I didn't get into that course but I got into my second preference but I didn't care about the course - I was just happy I got into the uni of my dreams. Besides a beautiful campus and easy access, there's hardly anyone from my school going there (LOVE) which was a huge pro for me. The other two choices I had weren't even choices, really. I just added them in because they were good unis. But they wouldn't have been good for me.

    2. No effing way. I love my uni. I really do. The uni that a lot of people go to I'm thinking of doing Masters in Business there, because it's closer to home and the campus itself is gorgeous, but I haven't decided. I'm also thinking of travelling overseas to complete it, because why not.

    3. Psychology! Next semester I'm taking an elective in Japanese, which shall be fun since it'll be beginners jap and I'm quite fluent in it (at least I was two years ago XD)

In high school, our counsellor was basically like, 'you can go to x, y or z, because these are the best unis that students from this school should go to.' She didn't say it exactly like that, but you get what I mean. Asian parents and private schools have a lot in common XD

  • 1. I visited the school and fell in love with it. The campus is gorgeous and it's the perfect size for me. I went to a relatively small high school with usually no more than 25 students in a class, so I knew that I wanted a fairmly small university as well. I was able to meet a few professors, as well as the director of the Honours program, and their reassurance really helped me.
    2. I will be entering my third year here soon and I still love it just as much as I did before. I chose the school that really seemed to suit me, and I'm very happy because of it.
    3. English, history, and women's studies.
