I'm totally guilty of ending most of my stories this way... It's kind of my way of tethering them together forever, plus I get so attached to my characters that I like creating this offspring.

Yeah, I agree with you. I'm just not interested in those kinds of stories. There's been a few sequels to stories I have enjoyed but I haven't read them because they've brought a baby and the whole family element into it, which I felt would kind of taint my opinion of the overall story, so I just skipped them. I'd rather leave it than read it and end up leaving negative comments just because it's not my thing.

And I agree with you about the symbol thing. It's definitely a life changing thing, so it would represent them "growing up" and moving to the next stage of their life. But I think there are other ways to do that, too. Doesn't always have to be by having a character get pregnant.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when I feel like a pregnancy happens far too soon in a relationship and it's not commented on. Like, if a couple has a baby within a year of being together, and they think it's perfect and awesome and there's no concerns that things are happening too fast. That's something that bugs me personally.

I think another reason I don't like babies in stories is because it like a symbol or something. It means the main character has to grow up or well.....like....you know they now all of a sudden in that next stage in life. I don't know I just don't like it.

Thank you. And I think that is also why I don't like these kind of stories because I'm also not in that part of life. I mean the character was around my age and I get enough from seeing people online talking about marriage and babies at just barely twenty so to have to read in a story is not what I'm looking for.

I think it was a mixture of poor writing, planning and just not fully planning the story out. That should have gone in a third book instead of cramming it all at the end. I can't stand when authors do that.

I agree and disagree I guess. You made great points, though. I think a baby can add depth to a story IF it's done right and the author doesn't rush through it and actually embellishes the pregnancy parts BUT the author still needs to keep a sense of action or danger within the story. Like....for example the father is in a crime syndicate or maybe some kind of hitman or race car driver lol. Something exciting so it's not just playing house in the story.

Personally, I get what you're saying 100%. If a story seems centred around a pregnancy or baby, I'm probably not gonna be interested. Why? Simply because I'm not at that part of my life (and to be honest, I'm really not a fan of kids unless I'm related to them) so it's not relatable for me. Just how I am.

As for the books you were talking about, that does seem very rushed and forced in. I'd be annoyed to if it went from on chapter where there was no mention of a pregnancy at all to the next having her in labour. That just seems like poor writing to me.

I disagree; certain characters becoming pregnant does add to the story depending on the character because pregnancy carries a lot of emotion, stress, and physical and mental growth on part of both the mother and father as they prepare to be parents. For some characters, that would add quite nicely.
