I'm waiting for that to happen to the people I went to school with; they broke off engagements, so marriages follow suit right? (A bit cynical but like you said, some get married young, grow up and change and want to follow different paths which don't involve their partner, or something.)
I'll keep you in my thoughts to get you through the condolences and best wishes. Just say some inspirational quote like "It'll all work out, you can do this!"---be a Katie Hallmark card. Then tell them "they're better off without 'em" so you're not a complete staff robot, ya feel me?
(we're in a much better place in our marriage now, btw)
that being said, I think all you CAN do is just be there for them. Be their shoulder to cry on and be there to take their minds off of it because it's tough and they probably feel like absolute shit because they were under the impression that "forever" meant just that and now it's been ruined for them for whatever reason.
